PRESS RELEASE:
World Surfaris are delighted to welcome up and coming world tour competitor Keely Andrew to the World Surfaris family.
Born and raised on the Sunshine Coast (Mooloolaba to be exact) Keely says her two older brothers lured her into surfing at the age of five where she immediately fell in love with the sport, but admits it wasn’t her only love growing up. At just 16 Keely was competing at a high level in two sports! She was wiping other girls (and boys) off the tennis court and notching up victory after victory on junior surfing events all over Queensland and New South Wales.
In the end a big win at the Australian Junior Titles decided Keely’s future in surfing and she has since gone on to compete full time on the WSL world tour along side some of her idols growing up, in Sally Fitzgibbons, Steph Gilmore & Lakey Peterson.
On the 29th of June 2018, World Surfaris gladly welcomed Keely as a brand ambassador alongside other Sunshine Coast legends like David Scard & Gary ‘Kong’ Elkerton.
“Keely is a rising start of women’s surfing and we feel this partnership will be hugely beneficial to both parties in the short and long term. Keely is obviously a stand-out already at such a young age and we want to help her achieve her ultimate goal of one day holding the WSL title above her head!” – Josh Allen, World Surfaris
Keely currently sits just inside the top 10 in the world after an unlucky event in South Africa where she was knocked out in round two after a heat where waves were few and far between. It was her first ever visit to arguably the best right-hand point in the world and despite the poor result Keely still took a lot away from the experience.
In a recent interview with her board shaper (JR Surfboards) Keely was asked how she would described her first experience at J-Bay. “It’s been amazing, Keely said. I didn’t know what to expect here but its quickly become one of my favourite places. It was pretty cool to see Supertubes up close at some of its best too and visiting the game parks and seeing wild elephants was very special, I can’t wait to come back next year”.
Well, we can’t wait to see Keely become world champion one day and we will do what we can to make that happen!
