Essentially a child prodigy when it came to skate and surf skills, Cheyne debuted on the first Professional Surfing tour as a 16 year-old. He subsequently finished runner-up on the tour 4 times but finally broke through to win his first World Title in the Under 40 World Masters Championships in France in 1999. As testament to his fitness, skill and grommet-like enthusiasm for surfing, nearly twenty years later, Cheyne was runner-up in the 2018 Over 55’s World Masters, held in the Azores.
A pioneer, innovator, designer and surf-coach, Cheyne was inducted into the Surfing Hall of Fame in 1986. Cheyne still remains actively involved in the Cheyne Horan Surf School on the Gold Coast, Queensland. We cannot begin to describe how delighted we are to welcome Cheyne as a World Surfaris’ Ambassador.
