World Surfaris is stoked to have Star Koat in our select range of Unique Surf Adventures.

Join the awesome crew on-board the Star Koat, as you hunt down the sickest waves available in the Mentawais. Star Koat is fast developing a reputation as an exceptional value surf charter, offering comfort, space and safety at a realistic price point.

Owner Guides and Expert Crew

Star Koat is owned by the surf guides on-board (they also own and operate a sister ship 'Moon Palikir'). They have an interest in ensuring your trip runs smoothly and that you are kept happy along the way. Not only are they dedicated to getting you the best waves but they are also super experienced and dedicated surfers themselves. With an in-depth and vast local knowledge, you’ll be in the know and made privy to where’s the best spot for current conditions? What’s the forecast? Tips on wave behaviour, tides, reef characteristics, local culture etc. They are stoked to get you stoked!

Their awesome 18ft centre console speedboat with 115hp engine will have you one step ahead of other boats in the region.

The crew on-board Star Koat are a happy bunch, willing to go that extra mile to ensure you’re getting whatever it is you need. The guys on board have been working together for years now and know how to look after your comfort requirements. They'll ensure your body is fuelled with great food, your coffee cup is full or a new lure is attached when you're towing a line off the back.

Star Koat has 5 cabins meaning that you’re not crashing out dorm style. This becomes a real highlight during a 12 night charter. You’ll be able to spread out a bit more and relax without treading on anyone’s toes. Cabin configuration is 1 cabin with 4 beds and 4 cabins with 2 beds in each. Get your head down in a more comfortable sleeping arrangement.  Get a better nights sleep in the a/c and wake up refreshed each day to tackle the best the Mentawais has to offer.

Star Koat pay particular attention to the menu and offer well planned meals with plenty of variety so that you will have energy for long surf sessions.  A combination of western style cuisine and local dishes will see you fueled and ready to take on each day. Trust us, this isn’t the kind of trip you’ll lose weight on, however, with all the surfing you'll be doing you'll return home looking super fit and healthy.

The Mentawai Islands - on every keen surfers bucket list

Lying west approximately 150km off the west coast of Sumatra, the Mentawais are a collection of islets that have captured surfer’s attention since they were first pioneered back in the late 80's. The secret has long since been out, and now the Mentawais are known worldwide as the real 'surfer’s paradise' hosting an abundance of world class waves. Whilst the surfing is incredible the Mentawais Islands are also absolutely stunning, hosting many endemic flora and fauna species in untouched and pristine environment.

If you haven't ticked the Mentawais off your surf trip bucket list then Star Koat is offering you the opportunity to experience this 'surf mecca' and maximise your surf time. If you are a seasoned Indo veteran then rest assured the lads on Star Koat will get you maximum barrel time with minimum crowds. There really is no place on earth like the Mentawais, with a range surf spots for intermediate to advanced surfers ranging from world class barrels to long workable walls.

Get your mates amped and contact World Surfaris today to turn your Mentawais dream into reality! The Star Koat crew have a ‘no effort is too much trouble’ attitude to make sure you will be taken to the right surf spots at the right time.

Optimum surf conditions:

Non Surf Activities

Although surfing is the main activity there are many other things to do during the trip. The Mentawai Archipelgo is one of the most stunning regions on earth. Onboard Star Koat you’ll have the opportunity to explore the many white sandy beaches and relax on coconut palm fringed shores between sessions. World Surfaris highly recommend going snorkeling and checking out the huge array of tropical marine life and coral gardens in this pristine region. On top of that there’s the fishing. The fishing in the Mentawais is worth the trip alone and even inexperienced anglers will get a genuine buzz from tossing in a lure. Who knows you may even end up catching lunch.

You will be greeted at Padang airport by a representative of Star Koat, and then transported to the vessel. After settling in on-board you’ll meet the very awesome crew and go through a few safety tips and get clued in from the guide. Your surf guide will also discuss what sort of waves your group want to chase and based on the current forecast he'll make some recommendations on where to start your Mentawais adventure.  It could be Playgrounds region in the North firstly then tracking South over the next 12 days to surf the Central and Southern Mentawais breaks or it could be straight to HT's for 6-8' bombs straight off the bat.

Once Star Koat sets sail in the evening of day 1 from Padang port, all you have to do is put your feet up or get your head down, wash off some jet lag and ease into the surf adventure of a lifetime.

The surf guides on-board are dedicated and experienced surfers with large local knowledge and will spare no expense to ensure that you’re in the right spot at the right time in order to get you shacked. The Captain is happy to steam the longer crossings at night (weather dependant), ensuring that the days are spent surfing your brains out rather than travelling.

The trip was really great. Bruno (our surf guide) placed us in the best surf, with the best winds every day of the trip.  We were very lucky to get to surf every day of the trip.  Food on the boat was amazing! Only let down was that there wasn't anything to do other than surf.  Only once did we Read more...

Hey Anthony.  Yeah got back yesterday arvo, but man what a trip. As a first timer to the surf travel thing and being a lesser experienced surfer, the size and type of wave, as well as the crew and other boys on board, were pretty well perfect for me. I had an absolute blast every day and enjoyed Read more...

Did the same trip on the Star Koat last year.  Again an excellent boat, great crew.  The food was great with a large variety of dishes.  We even had roast lamb and vegies.  Transport was very good.  Stayed at FM7 in Jakarta.  Staff at the airport to meet you and transfer you to the Hotel.  Great Read more...

Traditional Indo surf boat and very comfortable. The owner/guide Kadu got us the best quality waves, often with no one around while some boats waited at spots without getting in the water. For the time of year we were there I don't think we could have asked for more. We surfed every day, clean Read more...
