New in 2019, World Surfaris will be offering 10 Night Central Atolls sailing on Manta from May - September.
Our 10 night trips will start and finish in Male making the most of each surfable atoll between Male and Laamu Atolls. (Meemu, Thaa, Dhaalu & Laamu)
Finding the best waves on offer in the Central Atolls will be an easy task with our expert guide and the Maldives' most famous surfer, Kuda Ayya (Ali) at the helm of Manta. These trips are an ideal fit for time-poor surfers looking for a quick, easy escape to a remote paradise and wanting a huge wave count. The Manta crew offers the highest quality service and standards and will attend to all your surf needs.

The dhoni allows you to scout in comfort and provides a shaded area to rest between surfs, whilst the dingy is capable of doing quick runs to get you into the line up sooner. The benefits are substantial, especially if conflicting surfing interests arise. Say you’re a goofy footer but your mates are natural. Both Sultans and Honky’s are working. Don’t sweat it! The crew might take you to Honky’s in the dingy for some left hand love, whilst your mates hop onboard the dhoni to practice their forehand turns at Sultans. And on a quiet surf day, if the group can’t decide whether to go fishing or explore an uninhabited island, it’s not a problem - do both.
The Central Atolls are not as frequented as the Northern Atolls and World Surfaris has been at the forefront of discovery in this region since the late 90's.
Manta is deployed to the Central Atolls from May to September to take advantage of prime conditions over this period. The winds tend to be light and usually with some west in the angle over this time which is favourable for offshore conditions at most breaks. The surf generally ranges in size from 2-8 feet, however bigger days can been experienced from time to time. A great variety of reef breaks exist throughout these atolls from long mellow walls to more intense hollow waves. Our 10 night trips allow us to surf up to 4 atolls during your trip.
Surfers willing to pay slightly more than a standard northern trip and go the extra miles to be REMOTE, will be thrilled by the number and variety of surf breaks on offer. The reef breaks in this region are some of the most perfect set ups you could imagine and set in tropical paradise away from more touristy resort areas. World Surfaris and our Manta crew know where and when to find the best waves on offer in the Central Atolls. Some of the stand-out spots include Malik’s, Finnimas, Mikados (one of the prettiest surf spots in the world), Ying Yangs (World Class barrels) and Machines (mechanical as the name suggests). These waves will keep everyone happy from the hardcore barrel charger on a performance short board to the weekend warrior on a longboard or SUP. There are several options of differing degrees of intensity (rights and lefts) and our crew are happy to use the dhoni & tender boat to split the group to keep everyone happy and surfing waves that suit their ability level. Manta boasts the Maldives most renowned surfer and surf guide, Ali. Ali was voted the Maldives #1 surf guide for 2017 for the effort, knowledge and awareness he shows on each trip. This award is voted by his peers and our guests. You will be visiting Ali's playground when visiting this region and he knows the breaks better than most.
Buckle up, enjoy the Manta's luxury touch and surf your brains out in this pristine, idyllic location.
The crew onboard Manta are easy going but dedicated to their jobs. The old saying “the people make the place” definitely applies whilst onboard Manta. Friendly and willing to go above and beyond for you, they know their jobs thoroughly. The crew of 8 with captain and expert local chef are very capable and their quality service is frequently commented on in our feedback surveys. Manta is capable of hosting groups of 18, but we purposefully cap numbers at 12 surfers to avoid insta-crowds. The crew will ensure that each and every member of the group will feel like royalty.
Ali, also known as Ayya, is one of the Maldives' most famous surfers having won multiple body boarding events in the Maldives and on the International circuit. Ali has grown up charging the best Maldives surf on offer and knows the ins and outs of the region. He also rips on a short board more than most full time stand up surfers! The Maldivian Atolls' is his playground and he knows it well. He's an inspiring character to surf with and will get you psyched to charge!
Even if you are not a keen fisherman you will find yourself hooking into a spot of game fishing as you travel between breaks. The variety of species is unbelievable. If you are keen, bring your own gear and lures! Snorkelling and village visits are also a highlight of the trip.
• Arrive Male and jump on board Manta inside Hulhumale harbor, off to bed
• Wake up to the sound of the anchor at dawn and ready to hit the surf.
• Ali will likely make a quick pitstop at one of the breaks in South Male so you can get wet and your feet in the wax. By mid morning you will be back on the boat heading further south to Meemu Atoll.
• For the next 9 to 10 days you will make your way South, surfing as many waves as possible in the Central Atolls.
• On the last to second last day we will head back to Male so you can make your connection in time. We will surf as much as possible on the way back.
We assure you after 9-10 days of adventure onboard Manta in the Central atolls, you'll be surfed out and have a great big smile on your dial with enough waves under your belt to last a year!
Please be aware that sailing in both direction allows you to bring surfboards over 8ft. In the past, domestic flights have hindered guest experience.
