Capped Surfer Numbers
We understand that wave count is important to World Surfaris’ guests who visit Hudhuranfushi Surf Resort, which is why we initiated the capping of surfer numbers at Hudhuranfushi’s house break, Lohis Left.
Whether you’re staying with your family, surfing with friends, on your honeymoon or kicking back for a few days after a boat trip, the capped surfer numbers will ensure you get to enjoy this world-renowned surf break with as few other guests as possible. There aren’t many mid-range surf resorts that offer this kind of exclusivity, especially when one of the best left-handers is just a short walk from your room. Less surfer numbers means a more enjoyable surf and more waves for you.
Thanks to the surf management plan, World Surfaris can ensure our guests have a greater chance of surfing as many waves as possible and enjoy this world-class wave whilst staying at the beautiful Hudhuranfushi Surf Resort. Surf, eat, sleep and repeat – what more could you want from a surfing holiday!
Guaranteed Uncrowded Waves
Before the surfer cap was initiated in 2014, surfer numbers were spiralling out of control, leaving many of our World Surfaris’ guests frustrated about travelling around the world only to surf crowded waves.
Since the surfers cap, you can surf uncrowded waves and leave for home knowing you got your money’s worth from your World Surfaris surf trip. Guests are reporting a more enjoyable surf experience and a better atmosphere out in the lineup.
If you want to surf while staying at Hudhuranfushi resort, it’s essential to book into the Surfer Allocation, otherwise you may not be able to surf during your stay. But, with only 45 passes available at a time, you need to book quickly!
Imagine stepping out of your room to discover a world-class wave only walking distance away – it’s a setup most surfers only dream about!
Lohis Left is consistent, surfable in most swell/wind/tide conditions and regarded as one of the best left-handers in the Maldives. It can be ridden from 2 to 6 ft, and with multiple take-off points, guests are spread out enough to ensure everyone gets a wave.
One of the best things about Lohis Left is that under the surf management plan, as a guest you will be one of very few allowed to surf the wave at one time. This means more waves for you and more memories to take home at the end of your trip!
The accommodation at Hudhuranfushi Surf Resort has everything you’d expect from a picture-perfect Maldivian escape. The resort has accommodation for all budgets, whether you’re looking for a romantic ocean villa, or one of the Lohis rooms located only a minute walk to the surf.

These garden villas are spacious and configured with either a double bed, two single beds or triple share. With polished cement flooring, a TV, mini bar, air-conditioning, bathtub, outdoor open air shower and a timber front deck, they are located at the opposite end of the island to the Lohis Rooms.

We encourage all our guests to indulge at the Sunset Restaurant at least once during their stay. Overlooking the picturesque harbour, the Sunset Restaurant offers a fine dining experience featuring an impressive à la carte menu.
Watch the sunset as you dine on world-class food and enjoy the locally sourced ingredients. Sunset Restaurant is the perfect place to celebrate a birthday or another special occasion.
Love eating local? The Indian Pavilion offers a more traditional dining experience with authentic North and South Indian cuisine. Enjoy lunch or dinner at the Indian Pavilion with your family and friends. Bookings recommended.
Part of the Sunset Restaurant, the Sunset Bar is the perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine or two as the sun sets over the Indian Ocean.
Lohis Bar is at the south end of the island and the ultimate place to kick back and relax with a drink while you take in the view of Lohis left in action. Chat about the surf and watch others enjoy the peeling left-hander, while you enjoy the extensive bar menu.
‘All inclusive’ beverages are now available until 11pm at Lohis Bar. The buffet breakfast and lunch is now available at Lohis Bar for surfers and their families, an alternative to eating at the Banyan Restaurant.
Beach Bar & Grill
As the name suggests, the Beach Bar & Grill is out next to the volleyball court at the north end of the island and a great place to grab a beer at the end of the day.
Is there anything better than a cocktail by the pool at a Maldivian surf resort? Located near the reception, the Hiyala Bar is the perfect spot to end a day in the sun and enjoy your favourite beverage.
Located near the dive centre, Dohdi Bar, also known as the Disco Bar, serves premium drinks and cocktails.
What meals are included in the World Surfaris package?
Our packages are all-inclusive with buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner served in the Banyan Restaurant daily. (Lunch and dinner for surfers and their families is now also available at Lohis Bar.)
The package also includes three snack buffets (morning tea/afternoon tea/midnight snacks) and ‘all inclusive’ beverages. Full details can be found on all World Surfaris quotes.
Surf Hudhuranfushi Surf Resort – Lohis
This region has something for everyone, with a variety of reef breaks ranging in intensity from mellow, shreddable walls to gnarly, hollow pits. Some of the most famous North Malé Atolls’ surf breaks include Lohis, Jailbreaks, Thanburudhoo Island, Honkeys, Sultans, Ninjas, Cokes (Colas) and Chickens.
The surf season in the Malé Atolls is similar to Indonesia, with the best waves on offer from March through to October. If you’re chasing bigger waves, you’re likely to see more swell throughout June, July and August.
The surf generally ranges in size from 2 to 8 ft, with some bigger swells popping up throughout the year. Winds are normally from the west (off-shore), with swell direction mainly from the south/south-east.
The ever consistent Lohis Left is only a short walk from your room at the Hudhuranfushi Resort, with another six quality waves in the World Surfaris ‘surf package’ located between Malé and Thulusdhoo, within a 20-minute boat ride away.
Optimum conditions for the Male atolls
Swell: SE or S
Wind: Light W-NW
Lohis is the crown jewel of the North Malé Atolls. A peeling left-hander that breaks right off Hudhuranfushi Resort, it’s well-known as one of the most consistent waves in the Maldives.
Once host to the WQS O’Neil ‘Deep Blue Open’, at Lohis you can expect a deep, barrelling pit and rippable wall, or you can pick off the wider sets and enjoy a freight train ride all the way to the end section. In bigger swells Lohis is more suitable to experienced surfers.
Lohis is definitely the best wave for spectators, with Lohis Village and Lohis Bar being the best vantage point to watch the waves roll in. Family and friends can relax with a drink, take photos or just kick back and listen to the nightly entertainment on offer.
Previously off-limits, Jailbreaks is a long right-hander with three sections, including a mid-barrel section. When it’s lining up right, you can expect a super-fun 300m ride!
Located off Thanburudhoo Island, Honkeys is a super-fun left-hander with a mellow take-off, with a 90-degree bend offering a whackable wall. It’s fun, but not always consistent.
Sultans is one of the most consistent and user-friendly right-handers in the world. With long walls and barrel sections, Sultans has plenty of take-off spots, so crowds shouldn’t be a problem.
To the north is Ninjas and it can be seen from the deck at Lohis Village. This is a fun right-hander for beginner to intermediate surfers, depending on the conditions. With an easier take-off, Ninjas is good for both short boarders and longboarders alike.
One of the more well-known waves in the region, Cokes is a hollow right-hander which breaks at between 3 to 10 ft. It’s more protected from the southerly winds than Lohis and offers up deep tube rides for the more experienced surfers.
On the other side of Cokes, Chickens is the fastest left-hander in the North Malé Atoll. It’s a swell magnet and can handle swell from 3 to over 10 ft, with rides up to 500m long.
