We had great weather for our week. Plenty of sunny days but some well received cloud cover and tropical rain on the 4th day after baking in the sun and surfing around 7 hours a day!

The forecast predicted ankle to knee high waves for the duration of our stay but to our surprise we showed up to numerous breaks throughout the week with solid head to overhead sets rolling through.

Our standout session came at the hands of ‘Special K’. A super fun right-hander that works well with a Southerly swell. The good ones hit the top of the reef sucking off the ledge. You take off and get to your feet quickly. You then set your line for the inside bowl for a nice cover up and kick out into a nice little keyhole to paddle back out and do it all again. Unfortunately this session went undocumented because it was so perfect and no one wanted to shoot. The boys certainly got their barrel count up for the year and to make things even better WE WERE THE ONLY GUYS OUT!

Samoan Surfaris, albeit a basic set up, is truly a world class operation. Brent Ross is by far the most knowledgeable surf guide I have had the pleasure of seeing. He constantly has his finger on the pulse. You would think a guy who has been surfing these waves for 12 years would lose that stoke but Brent is the ultimate frother, loves to surf but loves to see his clients surfing epic waves more.

After surfing 6-7 hours a day, coming back to a comfortable fale with all the necessities you need, cold beer in hand watching the sunset while you wait for a delicious meal tops off your day. This became our daily ritual and something we looked forward to of an afternoon.

I can honestly say this is one of the best surf trips I have ever been on. The waves, the crew, the Samoan Surfaris set up and the amazing vibe Samoa offers all made for an unforgettable week. I would highly recommend a Samoan Surfaris adventure to anyone who wants a surf trip at its absolute core. Early morning starts, late afternoon finishes, too tired to walk or talk, amazing waves, epic scenery, friendly laid back culture and nothing but good vibes wherever you go.

**A special thanks to World Surfaris clients – Tim, Dan, Shaun & Jake for inviting me along for the trip. Thanks to John for letting me go…and my wife Tara!
