The Rubio Plantation Retreat is the absolute perfect, culture rich, surfing getaway. With a three session per day surfing habit, and an abundance of extra curricular activities, (fishing, snorkelling, bird watching, chocolate factory tours, markets and interactions with local villages), Shane and his crew made sure to cater and personalise the stay to our every need. Accommodation is simple but more than comfortable. Food is spectacular home style cooking, and almost the highlight of the trip. And the waves were perfect every day. Just varying types and sizes of perfect, and no matter what the conditions bring, Shane will know where to be and will put you in the spot every time. Like anywhere, the timing of your trip is random when planned so far ahead, but the swell here is consistent and caters to pretty much all levels, (being as heavy and hollow as anything on its day), and Shane is always very patiently informative to the lesser experienced to ensure your catching and riding waves all of every day. Surfing aside though, its the people that truly make this place special, with a very mellow, friendly, and eco friendly, vibe that is impossible not to fall in love with. Was sad to leave the place, and have spent every day since wishing we were back there, with sights on plans to definitely return again.
