May is generally a transition month over here – from the sheet glassy, small perfection of the early season, to the bigger, more powerful swells of June, July and August – so it’s typically a month when the guests will be able to surf Lohis every day but they are not going to see it double overhead and barreling.
Going through our photo files I see that early May had a couple stormy days before the arrival of a beautiful 3-4ft S/SE swell that seemed to linger for ages, before dropping off slowly as another straight South swell filled in, that then dropped off just in time for another SE pulse.
There were ride-able waves every day and the wind went from NW through to W with some really nice weather right up until the last couple days of the month.
Good times at Lohis J
