Culburra Boardriders WIN Lakey Peak Haven Prize

Culburra Boardriders have taken out the Australian Boardriders Battle for 2018 in pumping waves at Newcastle Beach. A full family affair went down with 2 pairs of siblings, Mikey & Tyler Wright as well as Jordi & Ty Watson also teaming up with Jordan Dank.

Culburra now claim bragging rights in being the best Australian club in surfing.

Womens world champion, Tyler Wright and her brother Mikey were stellar in the teams performance. Tyler displayed her usual powerful performance slashing her way to the highest score of a female in the final. But the hero was Mikey Wright who with only 50 seconds remaining found a mid-range scoring wave, sprinted up the beach and made it over the finish line with about 3 seconds remaining.

“The final literally went down to the wire and the competitive nature that team surfing brings to the sport is gaining a lot of popularity with fans and the surfers themselves. It gives up-and-coming juniors the chance to surf against some of their hero’s and perhaps cause an upset along the way, all for the benefit of their team” – Gary ‘Kong’ Elkerton.

The Culburra team now head to Lakey Peak Haven to go with their $24,000 in prize money. Last year Avoca Boardriders experienced an all expenses paid trip to Kingfisher Resort in the Mentawais and the experience was amazing for all involved. Hopefully Culburra score equally good waves and the footage that comes out is amazing as last time!
