A covid-19 update from John Finlay

10th June 2020 Covid-19 Update from World Surfaris Director, John Finlay:

We promised months ago not to inundate you with beautiful photos of fabulous waves from exotic locations that we can’t surf at present. Mind you, we do look forward to resuming regular transmission as soon as possible and probably as much as you do (we hope that you have managed to fill the void somehow).  A brief update must suffice for now…….

Our Mooloolaba office was next door to a medical clinic and COVID-19 gave them an urgent need for additional space. So we relocated to an office about a kilometre down the road. We are indebted to Keith Grisman for his generous kindness at his Boarding Office premises – thank you Griso. We had already empowered WS staff to work from home. For some of us, this has been quite a novel and even enjoyable experience. Others have missed the fun and camaraderie of the office, especially our weekly knock offs on a Friday afternoon which would normally involve the good kind of Corona.

During the upheaval and turmoil of the office move plus the lockdown restrictions, we have continued to work with clients and suppliers to make the many necessary date and travel changes. Thank you to all for your patience during this process.

While we still have limited specifics on when international travel will resume properly, there are glimmers of hope emerging. Like the short statement by the Maldives Ministry of Tourism at the end of May, noting that they look forward to welcoming visitors to the Maldives in July 2020. We understand this may be wishful thinking for our Australian customers in particular, but we remain optimistic that overseas travel will return sooner than originally thought.

And just today the Indonesia government has given the green light to tourists returning from June 20th 2020. This includes the country wide ban on surfing. This great signs and now we just need to wait for the Australian government to relax overseas travel restrictions.

Given that domestic travel will precede international, we have created an amazing adventure to the Great Barrier Reef. In an attempt to keep these trips somewhat ‘top secret’ we request that you register your interest by clicking HERE and our team will be in touch with more information and pricing.

Another amazing domestic experience is the UrbnSurf wave pool in Tullamarine. World Surfaris is excited for the grand re-opening on the 19th June and looks forward to helping its customers return to the wave pool or visit it for the very first time. It is a site to behold! More information on UrbnSurf Wavepool and how to book can be found HERE.

We have previously noted that the current disruption to overseas travel will eventually end. It will. In the meantime, please help whoever, wherever you can, stay inspired, stay fit and remain thankful that this fight simply required us to wash our hands & sit on the couch.
