New Caledonia is one destination that doesn’t get enough love and with so much on offer it’s hard to imagine why this is. Less than a short 3 hour flight from the East Coast of Australia (2 hours from Brisbane), the surf camps consist of friendly hosts serving up mouth-watering food, amazing fishing not to mention the powerful, consistent world-class waves with NO CROWDS!
Here’s a rundown on each camp:
Nekweta Surf Camp
Along the western coast of New Caledonia, about 2hrs drive from Noumea, is the picturesque Bourail region. Your hosts, Manu and his wife Stephanie take expert care of their guests. Together they make an inspiring team and will quickly become your friends during your stay and probably long after.
Manu, one of New Caledonia’s best surfers, operates guided boat expeditions to a choice of two offshore reef breaks including Secrets - the incredibly perfect left-hander that has been compared to Macaronis in the Mentawais.
Nekweta Surf Camp offers basic facilities but with very personalised attention, superb food and an expert surf guide. Manu is an exceptionally skilled waterman and his local knowledge is second to none. If the surf is lacking, Manu is a keen fisherman and will take you to where you’re pretty much guaranteed to catch a fish. Even if you're not a fisherman, we guarantee that you'll love it. Stephanie prepares some of the most delicious tasting food you could ever hope to eat - an ever-changing menu borrowing from French inspirations with fresh local produce.
Ouano Safari Camp
One hour’s drive North from Noumea International airport brings you to Ouano Safari Camp. A camping ground set on a mangrove lagoon with expansive views to the west and incredible sunsets. Accommodation consists of wooden cabins which line the lagoon.
With Direct access to the Uarai channel, the famous left hander of Ouano (arguably the longest left in the Pacific and very consistent) as well as another quality right-hand reef break, Ouano Safari Camp is a fun place to chill out after a full day of surfing, with pool table, swimming pool and bar - a great place to unwind in a friendly atmosphere.
New Caledonia is a top holiday destination for surfers, families and mates. Nekweta Surf Camp and Ouano Safari Camp have something for everyone from fishing, mud crabbing, snorkelling to sunset walks on the lagoon to eating yourself sick with the amazing food that is served up. The food alone is worth the trip!!!
