Maldives Surf Report

Richard and Amy Kotch have returned to the beautiful, sun kissed Maldives and both have enjoyed a surf soaked month at Hudhurnafushi Resort.  Read on from Richard……

World Surfaris / Hudhuranfushi Island, 2011.

It’s good to be back! The first two weeks of the World Surfaris / Hudhuranfushi Surf Season have been great fun. We’ve surfed every day in a range of conditions from sheet glass 2 ft up to well overhead. The first week had light, variable winds that allowed us to surf lefts and rights – typically we’d surf Chickens and Cokes in the morning followed by a quickie out at Lohi’s, before a late arvo session down at Sultans or Jails. This is one of the great things about being here with light or no wind – you can really mix it up and surf a lot of different waves. This week we’ve experienced a stronger Westerly wind that’s mostly limited us to the rights and just the occasional session out at Lohi’s (the least wind-affected Left in the area) This last swell peaked on Saturday, it was rather wild, wet and windy early but by mid morning Sultans was pumping. We had a couple great sessions with very few other boats around. The next few days have been smaller but still good fun. Sultans and Jails have been the best options but we did manage a couple surfs up at Cokes, one evening in particular we were lucky, the swell pulsed, the wind dropped and we saw a double rainbow!! Good times!!
