We’ve had a couple of quiet days surf-wise around the islands of the Maldives which culminated in an afternoon of unseasonal storm activity. Leading up to our wash down we spent a lazy morning frolicking around the Handhu Falhi in the channel beside Five Islands. Stumpy spotted a large manta ray near the boat and everybody was soon in the water swimming with it. Feeling inspired by their encounter with nature, the group then decided it was time to leap from the top deck like hyperactive school children and scare off any other wildlife that may have been hanging nearby.
The storm was followed by a calm, starry night, which gave way to a magical sunrise over Tiger Stripes. The pastel glow of the new day revealed the swell had bumped up again and the wind was all but a memory.
From dawn to dusk we enjoyed fun waves at Tiger Stripes until the sun left us as spectacularly as it greeted us some 12 hours earlier.
Laura from Germany is suddenly the star surfer amongst us, already a sure thing for the ‘most improved’ award. She’s gone from not being able to catch herself a wave to mixing it with big boys in the line-up, catching some really fine waves, while our body surfers from Cronulla have continued to amuse and inspire us with their peculiar approach to wave riding and life in general.
I can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings.
