Admist all the hoo- haa coming from the Indian Ocean season, its nice to know the South Pacific is still producing some epic swells for the enjoyment of guests. Sa’ Moana Surf resort produces very, very consistent swell. If you’ve ever wanted to do a surf trip to the south pacific then this place might just be the X on your map!

Unfortunately the Sa’Moana resort camera wasn’t working so no new pics but we’ve added a few of our favourites just to keep up apperances. All shots are from the 2010 season so far enjoy and get planning today!

Monday 9th to15th of August

Monday No surfers in House

Tuesday With only one surfing guest in house and small and windy conditions they headed to Wakas for a few fun ones. They were surfing by themselves which made the average conditions even better. Chest to head high side offshore fun wackable walls.

Wednesday The new crew arrived today with a slight increase in swell to greet them. Wakas was the choice for their first surf and they scored really fun waves. Slightly overhead with side offshores made for an excellent first surf in Samoa.

Thursday Awoke to hard trade winds and increase in swell so the call was to head to Pebbles for the hard offshores. Large mixed swell but hard off shores made it a little tricky to choose the good ones and some wipeouts were had as well as some great barrels in 1ft to 2ft overhead sets.

Friday Strong winds again and so they headed out to Devil’s Island for some offshores in the mixed swell. The Island offered up some well overhead sets and very hard side shores. This was a short session as they headed to Coathangers for a look but the wind was still too strong with 30knts.

Saturday Lighter winds greeted the crew this morning and they headed to Pebbles for some really fun waves coming all the way from the outside to the inside Guillotine for some long rides. With a group of 8 surfers conditions were right to break up the crowd with some focused on the outside and some on the inside Guillotine. Solid overhead sets on the outside and head high on the Guillotine.

Sunday Calm conditions in the morning gave them a window to head to Ytops to sample a new wave for the group and they scored again with solid overhead sets with good barrels and bowling walls. The wind eventually came after a good 2 1/2hr session for a bumpy ride back to the resort.

Need to escape the hamster wheel? - Sa’Moana Resort is perfect!!

Monday 12th of July to Sunday 18th of July

Monday With the steady south swell continuing and calm winds the lads had a cruisy couple looking for some mellow surf and as they were the only surfers in house, they headed to the always playful Mal’s for some fun soft right hand walls with nice reform inside sections. Conditions were perfect with no wind and clean chest to head high. Then they headed into Kiddies Corner for some waist high waves to finish off the trip.

Tuesday A consistent south swell again and calm winds. A father and son had arrived and keen for their first surf and headed out to Pebbles to find nice overhead super clean walls connecting from outside to inside with Guillotine section, always a highlight. The All Zone option headed to Salani Right and Rustys for well overhead clean rights until the wind picked up at the last minute at Rustys.

Wednesday A bit of a bump up in size today but still a strong south swell with calm conditions so the call was to head to Wakas. On arrival at 9:30am there were a few guys out but by 10:00am everyone left and they had epic Wakas to themselves. Nice overhead barreling walls absolute glass and 2 guys out. EPIC!

Thursday The cruisy surfer couple were keen to get back to Mal’s while the father and son were on a tour to hand feed turtles. The swell had turned slight east and offered up chest to head high peaks with the fun inside reforms nice and clean conditions before a light trade had began.

Friday A new group of surfers arrived to wake up to strong trade winds so the call was Pebbles for a quick first surf with well overhead sets and hard off shore barrels with steep drops, sunny clear skies and no one else around.

Saturday Strong trades kicked in early again and the crew headed to Wakas for some fun down the line walls in side offshore conditions of head high to overhead sets. On the way the crew were greeted by the magical Samoan Spinner Dolphins who guided them into the break.

Tropical Paradise indeed!

Sunday Prevailing trade winds again for the morning and with a small south and east wind swell they headed to Outside Siumu for some playful lefts, then hit Wakas for a quickie session, until stopping at Pebbles on the way back to the resort for some small but clean fun barrels. Hints of a new swell on the way for next week!

Hi All,

This just in from Sa’Moana Resort Samoa and Yep!! You guessed it, it’s still cracking and even if they’re choosing to modest about it it still makes the local seem pretty fickle – Enjoy!

Monday 28th of June to Sunday 4th of July

Monday Pebbles was the call for our guests in the morning light with some shoulder to head high sets being groomed by the trade winds for a fun surf to start the day off. Sets were coming in to the Guillotine section and being smashed by our group of younger surfers.

Tuesday Inside Siumu and Wakas was the call today for bit of variation and relieve some pressure at Wakas as another group was surfing there upon our crews arrival. The session started at Inside Siumu with head high sets and fun racing walls then after an hour they headed back to find Wakas to ourselves producing shoulder high fun wack-able walls and barreling end section.

Wednesday The All Zones crew headed to the East Coast to find Chewy’s right well overhead but a little drifty with the current so they switched over to Coathangers and found some really fun waves with sets again well overhead and light side offshore winds. Then they hit to Wakas on the way back to the resort for a late afternoon surf with only us out surfing chest to head high really fun waves the grommies were loving it.

Thursday The entire resort accepted the invitation to have a Ultimate Sa’Moana Experience! Heading to Devil’s Island fishing, surfing, and snorkel trip with a picnic lunch on the island, a day designed for the whole family to enjoy the ocean together. The conditions were perfect with small south swell and glassy ocean. They hooked up 3 Blue Fin Trevally and 1 Bonito. Devil’s Island was chest to head high offshore while our snorkelers interacted with outer rim of the atoll cruising along the drop off and exploring the layers of coral and tropical fish. Later they called into Aganoa Black Sand Beach (Boulders) for a swim to cool off and everyone went for a snorkel and walk along this beautiful beach.

Friday An All Zones trip was called to head back to the East Coast to surf Coathangers and scored! Roping rights in offshore playful conditions surrounded by natures beauty and wonderful views. Head high offshore down the line walls with multiple turns, a unique set up in Samoa!

Saturday The Local Option took the crew to Pebbles with a mixed swell on the ocean creating multi peaks to choose from with offshore trade winds. Only 3 guests made for a mellow session to pick the right ones coming through. Chest to head high waves with bowls and a few barrels to be had.

Sunday Trade winds were blowing first thing this morning and small mixed swell so again they made the call to head to Inside Siumu to escape the wind and offer a fun option for the day. This produced chest to head high sets with a few connecting wall sections offering up turns and cutbacks along the way.

Hi All,

This has come in from Sa’Moana resort Samoa, the place is still cooking, sick surf, great food and awesome people.
Monday 14th of June to Sunday 20th of June

Monday Our guests being totally surfed out with the last few days of waves decided that today was a family day and headed to the Lava Cava swim-thru and natural wonder sinkhole and then a nature hike to stand next to an 80 metre waterfall. No Surfing today.

Tuesday With family time taken care of it was back in the water and the early morning trip paid off with Pebbles producing clean and really fun overhead walls with barrels. With only 4 surfers out they had the pick of the sets. The non-surfer guests headed out on a day trip to kayak on our brand new sit on top kayaks to a Volcanic Crater Island located on the Wild East Coast for some excellent snorkeling and exploring for the kids in tide pools and along the beaches of the island.

Wednesday Exhausted from the adventurous day the crew decided to sleep in this morning and head to Apia, the capital for some shopping and sight seeing of the islands North Side in the afternoon. No Surfing Today.

Thursday With strong winds and an increasing swell the crew headed north to find some shelter from prevailing trades and scored really fun Pudding Rock shoulder to head high. They were so excited to get out no- one took photos. Sorry

Friday An early morning trip to Boulders found a little bumpy solid overhead swell with rain squalls and 10 guys out. But after a short while they left and the sun broke thru the rain clouds and lit up the ocean, calmed the winds, and it turned good just for our three surfer guests only. Sharing sets and hooting for each other to go with no one else out. Experience pays off at Sa’Moana Resort.

Saturday With some heavy trade winds blowing the whole island it took the ALL ZONE Option to find the best waves the island had to offer. They found them and at Missions and Coathangers. Coathangers was fun with side shore low tide workable walls made for some really fun down the line rides and playful turns, floaters and off the tops. Then they headed to Missions for some really epic conditions with no else around. Just 5 surfers and heaps of clean waves.

Sunday Heavy Trades were still blowing and limited surf options due to availability of surfing spots on Sundays and so the surf options were called off for rough ocean conditions and poor surf availability. The guests enjoyed the village church service, Sa’Moana beach, and cooling off in the infinity saltwater pool getting ready for the awesome Aussie BBQ for dinner.

Monday 10th till Sunday 16th May

Monday The early morning high tide saw the crew surfing Coco’s for some fun head high waves in clean conditions. As the tide dropped and the crowd left they pulled into to Wakas and had it to themselves for the rest of the session. All around good fun for everyone in the small playful ocean conditions.

Tuesday A new South west swell had arrived and Sa’Moana Resort guests were the first to welcome it at Special K’s with some glassy right hand barrels and a few turns to boot. Then it was off to the ever popular Wakas for some more barrels except going the other way. Left and Right Barrels on the same morning, that is Samoa.

Wednesday The swell peaked overnight so they called an ALL ZONE trip today and headed to Salani Rights and Left for the daybreak session. The view they7 got on arrival was a great set of well overhead Lefts and slightly overhead rights. The group split up with a majority surfing the larger lefthanders for the tide and awaiting the right later on. A good 4 hour session was had by all on both waves before heading to Rusty’s for a light side-offshore session in some really fun and racy walls with only Sa’Moana surfers within miles of coastline.

Thursday With a fading swell the crew surfed Wakas which produced shoulder to head high fun waves, a few barrels were had and everyone enjoyed the warm crystal blue clear walls of fun.

Friday The trade winds kicked in overnight making Pebbles the perfect option with slightly overhead waves and offshore wind producing walls hitting the bend in the reef and racing through the Guillotine barrel section. Heaps of good rides with heaps of hoots and yelling going on.

Saturday An increasing swell woke the boys so morning surf at Ytops was the go and really fun and able to spread the crowd out a bit. Average head high waves with bigger sets made for some epic surfing conditions with only our crew around surrounded by jungle lined beaches. Then they headed back to the local zone for incoming tide at Wakas again with just our crew out getting great long rides in light side-offshore conditions.

Sunday An early morning trip back to Ytops and Spot X was welcomed by a pod of Spinner Dolphins giving the crew a great show. The fun head high sets saw a split in the crew with some on the rights and some on the lefts with picturesque conditions again. Then it was off to Outside Siumu as the swell dropped for some fun ‘A’ frame lefts and rights being shared by all the crew.

Hi all,

Another couple of epic weeks at Sa’Moana Resort

Monday 19th to Sunday 25th April

Monday The guys on the local surf plan surfed Boulders, which was a bit onshore and lumpy, but there were some solid head and a half high waves rolling down the point. The All Zones crew scored with a search and explore mission to the far reaches of the island! They discovered unridden waves, giant pods of spinner dolphins, whales and some awesome setups only accessed by Sa’Moana’s zodiac. See the photos and look out for more gems as we keep surfing this amazing coastline…

Tuesday The All Zones crew motored out to Salani Right for some solid head and a half glassy right handers with some standup barrels! It was pumping and our small private group shared the waves for hours. Across the channel Salani Left was rifling and spitting, they just needed the crew up for the challenge! It was a great day and capped off by an evening head high session at Wakas, again, Sa’Moana scored pumping waves to themselves.

Wednesday It was a chill out day today after days of pumping waves and more on the way!

Thursday The arrival of a new swell saw the local surf crew head out to Wakas. Although it was a strong onshore, there were some solid overhead waves to be had. Barrels were made and everyone was happy.

Friday Boulders was on today! As they pulled up at the lineup, it was again only Sa’Moana guests for the waves! After hours surfing the long rolling double overhead walls of Boulders to themselves they headed back and enjoyed the rest of the day at Sa’Moana. Vailima time.

Saturday Conditions were flawless today! The swell was pumping and the conditions were absolute glass! The local surf crew chose to hit Wakas for some mellow but barreling left handers. It was overhead and super fun. It was torture for our All Zones guides, knowing the countless, seriously good setups that would have been going off! So those that are keen get over here and sample the best surf Samoa has to offer, and surf breaks we bet you’ve never heard of before, do it NOW

Sunday Another trip to Wakas today saw the crew surf by themselves again for hours. Conditions were clean, shoulder high and rippable with the odd barrel.

Monday 12th to Sunday 18th April

Monday Today was about breaking in Tava’e (the new zodiac) departing from Sa’Moana’s lagoon the call was to head straight to Pebbles to greet glassy head high walls with barreling inside sections. The call was confirmed as firm trade winds kicked in creating epic conditions while other spots were blown out.

Tuesday The guests took a day off surfing to enjoy a sightseeing drive through the central mountain range and into Apia the capital of Samoa for some sightseeing. They then headed along the scenic northern coastal road and along the jungle mountains of the east cross island roads littered with waterfalls and friendly villagers.

Wednesday A trip to Pebbles for more head high barrels of fun in offshore trade winds was the call today. Beautiful sunny skies with no other crew in the lineup. This is what Sa’Moana Resort is all about, no crowds and great waves

Thursday With a north swell arriving the call was to head to 47’s producing fun playful shoulder high running rights surrounded by majestic mountains and waterfalls amongst jungle canopy, this is the true surfing experience of Samoa.

Friday Our new All Zones access brought Sa’Moana guests to the Wild East Zone to sample some side offshore Mystic’s with a north swell producing some fun rides with overhead sets creating barrels for the first crew to surf this new discovery. The crew then headed to the low tide spots along the north side but ended up timing the new swell arriving to hit Wakas for a great arvo surf with no one else out. Sunsets and Vailima Beers go well together after a long day of surf.

Saturday The crew on the ‘local’ program headed to Wakas for some clean shoulder to head high waves for the glassy morning session with only 6 surfers out. Fun for all. The All Zones guys headed for the South East Zone in the morning to sample overhead Salani Left doing what it does best, barrels and long fast walls then as the wind picked up they headed to Devil’s Island for some offshore overhead sets as the tide dropped, finishing the day at Wakas for a really fun sunset surf full of more barrels and wackable left bowls.

Sunday Local surfing only today and the group was off to Pebbles as a light offshore wind picked up with guests pulling into in some overhead barrels and running walls from the outside section to the inside. A mellow day to end an exciting week of surfing.

Monday A great chill out day around Sa’Moana Resort today saw guests relaxing in our lagoon, swimming in the pool and enjoying drinks on the deck, with some great waves in recent days, and more swell on the way.

Tuesday With firm on-shores, the crew enjoyed some fun waves straight out at Resorts. Around waist high the waves were fun for a few easy turns before some solid surf upcoming!

Wednesday Shoulder to head high Pebbles was pumping today! The uncrowded lineup saw consistent waves and some great barrels scored!

Thursday The crew were keen to experience some new waves and they were well rewarded today! The new Sa’Moana All Zones Surfing tour scored pumping overhead rights at Rustys and fast hollow overhead lefts with not another surfer in sight! It was a great day for the couple guys, and a taste of Samoa’s real, untapped surf potential.

Friday A morning trip to Wakas saw glassy shoulder high lefts peeling down the reef in the perfect sunny skies and crystal water!

Saturday An afternoon session at Pebbles was head and a half high, super clean and pumping! With the Sa’Moana crew the only ones on it the barrels were plenty and our small crew shared the rifling waves for hours!

Sunday The morning trip to Wakas found it absolutely pumping! It was sheet glass for hours, head high, and the Sa’Moana crew scored it by themselves again with all the other surfers limited by their tidal access! A great Sunday and a great end to the week!

Another hot couple of weeks from one of our favourite South Pacific neighbours

The following report contains the last 3 weeks plus images over that time frame, looking at the pictures and reading the report you’ve just got to appreciate how consistent this place really is!

Monday 15TH to Sunday 21st March

Monday With a grinding ground swell, offshore winds and sunny skies it was making for an epic day! The crew surfed the down the line, right hand barrels of Resorts. It was well overhead, clean and hollow, with onlookers photographing right off the deck! (11a-10)

Tuesday Today’s boat trip to pumping Wakas had everyone stoked! It was head and a half, barreling, offshore and perfectly clean! Everyone got a tonne of waves, but decided to follow it up with a surf at head high Coco’s and Boulders for good measure! (11b-10)

Wednesday This morning double overhead Rusty’s was throwing, peeling and clean! It was an awesome surf, with grommets charging, old dudes getting pitted and plenty of waves for everyone, without another surfer for miles! After this great session the crew had a stop off at Wakas and scored more pumping, clean overhead pits. A great day on the boat.

Thursday Another solid day of surf today. A boat trip to Wakas and Pebbles saw big sets and some solid waves coming through! Wakas was well overhead, followed by a session at Pebbles allowing some guys to surf the rippable outside section, while others surfed the heaving inside bowl!

Friday With the solid swell still hanging around, a trip to Boulders saw some long blue walls, barrels sections and carving turns in the well overhead conditions. It was clean, long and super fun!

Saturday The swell was still solid today and the conditions were sheet glass with a super keen crew! They spent another morning surfing the overhead throwing barrels of Pebbles and the rippable walls of Wakas all by themselves, it was amazing! (11c-10)

Sunday A great call was to get out early on the boat today! As they pulled up to Rusty’s, the well overhead barrels were throwing thick. The crew was straight out there, plenty of solid waves were ridden, big barrels had, and walls ripped in the offshore conditions. A second surf at overhead Wakas topped off a great day of waves with the winds still light! Another amazing week of uncrowded, perfectly sunny, pumping Samoan waves! (11d-10)

Monday 22nd to Sunday 28th March

First up we were stoked to have Mick Campbell over at the resort with us last week and he had some great waves. This is Mick’s 2nd or 3rd stay with us and this time we showed him a whole bunch of new waves we’re surfing. Naturally most of todays shots are of Mick.

Monday A short surf at Pebbles got the guys some good clean head high barrels. The change in wind direction had our guides excited and they made the call to move to Ytops. Conditions were great, the left hand barrels were long and rippable and everyone got very good waves in amazing surroundings!

Tuesday A super early mission this morning paid off 10 fold as the crew locked in to some pumping double overhead pits at Rustys! Hours of great waves in light winds with a great group of guys had everyone stoked, before capping it off with some great waves back at Wakas!

Wednesday The barreling lefts of Pebbles had the crew keen to get back there again so that was the call! Head high, glassy, barrels had everyone stoked, with two surfs for the day.

Thursday An morning trip to Corners (east coast) saw some fun waves for the crew. Although lumpy, it was great to get out and see some of the island and score waves along the way.

Friday The waist high waves of Wakas were fun for a morning surf before chilling out for the day. It was rippable, and even in the light on-shores Wakas is always fun.

Saturday An afternoon boat trip saw more solid overhead barrels at Pebbles, while others surfed great waves with an amazing back drop at 47’s (new Nth coast spot). It was head high, barreling and the clean, long walling rights had everyone stoked!

Sunday More solid overhead barrels at Pebbles today. It was throwing and heavy and everyone got some good ones! A blessing to have these waves to ourselves and another great week of surfing in Samoa!

Monday 29th March to Sunday 4th April

Monday The call for today was to head to a scenic waterfall lined bay for a small playful north swell option. The guests scored shoulder high fun waves to themselves at One Nut Point to change up from the barrels ridden on the south coast.

Tuesday The crew headed out on the boat to the jurassic park type location of Y-Tops on a beautiful sunny day. The waves were clean, shoulder high peeling lefts with no wind for hours. Great fun had by all, surrounded by paradise and new friends.

Wednesday A trip to Rusty’s Right for some overhead walls was the go and they found barrels of fun with no one else out. The variety of waves was great, with rippable sections and nice cover-ups exchanged between guests and guides.

Thursday A new swell had hit over night and the south coast was pumping all the way to Y-Tops. It was double overhead on the sets with spitting barrels and big drops were happening amongst the jungle beach bay backdrop.

Friday Y-Tops was hit again in the early morning light for more epic waves with amazing conditions. The swell was clean and without a breath of wind the head and a half sets were shared between our small crew of surfers. A small group had split off on an adventure to the Wild East Side to experience some now surf spots surrounded by natural beauty and no crowds. They scored long double overhead peeling rights at Chewy’s, and offshore double overhead Namu’s Left barrels and overhead bowling To’os Left all by themselves. An epic start to Sa’Moana Resort’s new All Zones Surf Option.

Saturday With Strong trade winds the call was to head to Pebbles to welcome a solid overhead swell. The crew had stand up barrels and had to themselves for hours! All the crew scored some serious time which was followed by a few cold Vailima’s back at the resort.

Sunday Today saw a smaller south swell with trade winds, so Pebbles was the call. It was linking fully from the outside to the inside hollow guillotine section. The group split up with the older crew focused on the outside mellow walls while the body boarders were hyped on the offshore barrels of the inside.

We surfed every day with the swell around the 3 to 4ft plus also scored a 6ft session at the River Mouth outside right on our first day and a then on our last day scored perfect 6 to 7ft Boulders with only

4 of us out. Got to surf different breaks on both sides of the island including 2 fun days on the north side at a break where they make the Cava Bowls.

We were lucky with the weather as it was glassy everyday as we had bugger all wind or a storm would come through and glassed it off.

The surf camp set-up was good with great staff and good food.

The surf guides were great; especially the new head guide John. The boys knew all the spots and have a new zodiac arriving soon. John has got some good plans to use it to take surfers to a lot more breaks that he knows around the island…..

……As I said over all it was a great trip and I have attached a few pic’s for you. The surf ones are of “Special K” and our last day at Boulders.
