Hi All,

When World Surfaris started pushing Sa’Moana Resort as a summer destination I was a tiny bit sceptical. No place, I thought, was blessed with regular consistent waves and generous offshores year round. I was wrong and it turns out that surf experts like resident surf guide John Long, our own Shaun Levings and a couple locals from Samoa do in fact know what they are on about. Samoa and Sa’Moana Resort may in fact be all that its cracked up to be, the below photos are testament and if you’re an unbeliever, then go through all the blogs entries and prepare to be converted – the place cooks!

Monday 29th of November to Sunday 5th of December

Monday Our All Zone Trip went to straight to Salani Right and scored slightly overhead east bowls with very rippable top to bottom surfing and the occasional barrel to boot. They then headed out to Wakas and scored great conditions with 2 foot overhead sets making it really fun with barrels and wackable wall sections. Epic day of Surf by Sa’Moana Resort surf guides!

Tuesday The swell had dropped overnight and after a full day of surfing the day before the call was to hit Pebbles in the arvo for some head high challenging barrels at the Guillotine section.

Wednesday The boys hung out at the resort and surfed out front at Resorts for some head high peaks with many fun waves to choose from.

Thursday With a small swell and stormy conditions the crew headed out to Outside Siumu to surf some rights and lefts to break up the crowd in the less than epic conditions but had fun none the less with some head high sets coming through both ways.

Friday With a north winds swell today they headed on an All Zone trip to the scenic and remote Tanoa Bowls for some light onshore lefts offering up some chest to head high sets, but a strong squall came through that blew out the surf after an hour and half session. Still heaps of fun though.

Saturday Out front at Resorts was the call this morning with clean head high peaks offering up some really fun conditions straight out of bed.

Sunday A non surfing day today but Resorts had a few peaks to be had with the small swell but clean conditions.

Sorry the shots are a bit grainy today but you can still see the quality of the waves, with our guests pulling in.

Monday 15th of November to Sunday 21st of November

Monday When our new influx of surfing guests arrived today they hit Pebbles for a late arvo session finding clean shoulder high bowls running into the Guillotine section offering up the occasional makeable and very enjoyable barrel.

Tuesday With a small swell and stormy conditions the crew headed to north side for an exploratory mission but ended up heading to the sea caves to enjoy some of the magic on land that Samoa has to offer when the surf is just not happening, luckily a rare occasion.

Wednesday The was a small increase in swell so the crew was waiting for the high tide in the afternoon to hit Pebbles. Again they found head high fun walls with the ever barreling Guillotine section doin its thing

Thursday A new north swell had hit so they headed over to Dragon’s Breath to find overhead heaving A frames with super fast sections and occasional bomb set sent down from the North Pacific. They then we headed back to the south to score Special K and Pebbles with head high and really fun waves to ease the morning jitters BD’s is definite challenge and not for the faint hearted.

Friday The crew headed to Salani Right for overhead wedging peaking sections creating challenging take offs and fast rides

Saturday Outside Siumu lefts were perfect and slightly overhead with really fun carvable walls offering everyone in the group a ton of fun quality waves. When they got back to the resort the crew headed out for another session out front at Resorts for some really fun lefts to finish off the day.

Sunday The gang surfed Resorts again this morning, as the swell had backed off a bit, and it was still offering up some slightly overhead fun clean waves nice Samoan waves. Vailima time later.

Monday 8th to Sunday 14th of November

Monday There are no surfing guests in for the week so it was a day of resting and maintenance for our fleet. Surf was a small SSW swell with light winds.

Tuesday No surfing guests again today but swell was really clean SSW with off shores about 2ft overhead.

Wednesday Sick surf out at Resorts, really fun and with no surfing guests, it was just the guides out having a ball. 2ft overhead sets and really clean.

Thursday Great surf again clean and slightly overhead surfing Resorts with no surfing guests.

Friday Clean conditions in the morning before winds picked up. South swell of 1-2ft overhead. No surfing guests again.

Saturday Stormy conditions with south swell of head high and slightly overhead. No surfing guests again today.

Sunday Clean overhead conditions and fun waves at Resorts. The guides had an afternoon session in front again.

Hello,

Once again Sa’Moana resot has seen fit to rub our noses in more of their Polynesian Perfection…… Enjoy!

Monday 18th to Sunday 24th of October

Monday The crew headed out in the afternoon for a small wave session at Wakas and found some waist to chest high side shore walls with only 2 surfers out. Samoan fun!

Tuesday An afternoon trip to Wakas saw some great chest high waves pushing through and with light winds it was the perfect combo for a fun session with only 4 surfers in the line up.

Wednesday With a small swell and a late high tide they headed out in the afternoon for some really fun and playful Coco’s peaks which were a bit inconsistent but head high to 1ft overhead sets with the new swell arriving a little early. When the light east wind came up they headed over to Outside Siumu to sample some fun head high racey lefts before heading back for a sunset cruise to the resort.

Thursday For an early morning split the crew hit the ocean to find a still small inconsistent swell round head high at the Pebbles Guillotine section creating some fun take offs and racey inside speedy sections with some stand up tubes for our 10yr old surfer guest Reef.

Friday Still with a small swell and glassy early morning conditions the guys hit Outside Siumu for some chest to head high rights and lefts before the wind hit it and then finished the session off at the Pebbles Guillotine section offering up chest to head high with an occasional overhead peak at take off in offshore conditions.

Saturday It was as small as Samoa gets today, so they had our surfer guests rest up for the new swell expected to hit on Sunday. They called a trip to the Ocean Trench’s for a day of touring and adventures swimming in lava caves and waterfalls. An afternoon surf trip to Wakas saw chest to head high waves in really fun conditions but still awaiting the new swell.

Sunday The new swell arrived very slowly today with pulses from the SW every so often making some fun waves at Pebbles at the Guillotine section with some slightly overhead peaks before heading over to Wakas for some fun walls with the out going tide.

Monday 4th to Sunday 10th of October

Monday The week started with a strong E swell with hard NW winds so they headed on the All Zone to The Wild East to score some classic waves all by themselves. First hit was a right hander called Chewy’s at double overhead and caught it unreal! Offshore winds spitting barrels and racing walls amongst scenic beauty, then off to a long left just a short drive away called Boomers and it was again unreal, absolutely firing and no one but us our 4 guys! This is the All Zone experience!

Tuesday With the stories of the previous day told to the guests who did not go that day the rest wanted to grab some for themselves to so they headed back out to Chewy’s for a little smaller size but same clean offshore conditions and the boys were stoked! The evening called for a late arvo surf at Resorts as a new south west swell showed signs.

Wednesday With the new swell pounding the reef all night they awoke to find bombs breaking in front of the resort and our two new guests frothing to get out on a smaller right to start off with so they headed out to Special K to score 1-2 foot overhead clean bowls and great start to their holiday and for one his first wave since July and his first wave in Samoa was a barrel straight out the gate! So stoked with the morning session the boys wanted more from Special K so they headed out again for the arvo and got it a little bigger and clean with amazing light at sunset.

Thursday With a large south swell the crew headed to the Wild East to find some more playful right hand waves and they scored at White Tips with some slightly overhead sets running down the reef creating some fun waves out of the large swell. A rain squall came through at first and then cleaned it all up as the sun shone down, another beautiful surf session at Sa’Moana.

Friday The swell had dropped a little but still had some large sets every so often so they went to Salani right and scored 2-3ft overhead waves with an occasional larger set rumbling through to keep heads on straight while having a ball on the fun barreling bowls. Headed back to the resort for lunch and a bit of a rest, before going to Wakas for the late arvo session. Scored it for one and ½ hrs with no one else, with some 1 foot overhead sets coming in constant. Fun fun fun!

Saturday With a smaller S swell Pebbles was the go for a change of pace and found it head high, no wind, no crowd, with a gaping makeable Guillotine section creating some great drops and a few spitting barrels for the boys to share.

Sunday Surfed out front at Resort’s in the morning producing 30 meter long head high walling lefts straight out front of the restaurant making a nice end to a exciting and varied surfing week.

Hi All,
It’s been a while since Sa’Moana Resort has sent us the latest surf report. It appears we’ve missed some serious swell action, but armed with their tender, camera and inexhaustible surf stoke (not too mention epic waves) it looks like we’ll all be kept in the loop. Good thing too this place is still cooking !!!!!!!!

Monday 6th of September to Sunday 12th of September

Monday With very windy & rough conditions with a large mixed swell they headed to Boulders to escape the wind and catch some waves during the low tide. The crew found head high to overhead sets with lumpy mixed swell offering up some fun walls for the conditions of the day.

Tuesday The All Zone day was the go and they headed to Devil’s Island early for the high tide and trade winds giving them some overhead offshore sections but a little lumpy due to the stormy ocean conditions. Then it was off to Boulders as the tide dropped where they found some sets around head high and 1 foot overhead but clean conditions and no one else out. As the tide came back in they headed to Pebbles and surfed the Guillotine at head and a half in off shores for an end to a great day of surf at Sa’Moana.

Wednesday Early morning with calm winds but lumpy conditions so the crew headed out to Special K to break up the left handers they had been surfing and caught it a little overhead with glassy walls until the winds picked up and they headed across the reef to Pebbles to catch some really good Guillotines and a few connectors coming all the way through, and only 4 surfers to share it all.

Thursday An early morning surf at Village Lefts and Resorts was the go this morning for our guests and surf guides as a window of light winds was in the morning. Then an outgoing tidal trip to Wakas to catch a few 2-3ft side shore walls with bowley inside sections to finish off the day.

Friday With a small leftover wind swell and clean conditions out the front at Resorts, the crew paddled out and had few fun peaks and left hand walls with the predominately east swell.

Saturday The trade winds were back up and they headed out to Pebbles for some offshore head high peaks and very fun with a few barrels on the Guillotine section wrapping through from the outside. Waiting for the arrival for new south swell to pick up the stoke again.

Sunday A The crew woke to a slight pulse in the swell creating some slightly overhead draining walls though the Guillotine section @ Pebbles while they had a window of light winds early in the morning. It picked up hard by 10:30am to end the week off with a desire for some different winds and a little more swell which is in the forecast.

Admist all the hoo- haa coming from the Indian Ocean season, its nice to know the South Pacific is still producing some epic swells for the enjoyment of guests. Sa’ Moana Surf resort produces very, very consistent swell. If you’ve ever wanted to do a surf trip to the south pacific then this place might just be the X on your map!

Unfortunately the Sa’Moana resort camera wasn’t working so no new pics but we’ve added a few of our favourites just to keep up apperances. All shots are from the 2010 season so far enjoy and get planning today!

Monday 9th to15th of August

Monday No surfers in House

Tuesday With only one surfing guest in house and small and windy conditions they headed to Wakas for a few fun ones. They were surfing by themselves which made the average conditions even better. Chest to head high side offshore fun wackable walls.

Wednesday The new crew arrived today with a slight increase in swell to greet them. Wakas was the choice for their first surf and they scored really fun waves. Slightly overhead with side offshores made for an excellent first surf in Samoa.

Thursday Awoke to hard trade winds and increase in swell so the call was to head to Pebbles for the hard offshores. Large mixed swell but hard off shores made it a little tricky to choose the good ones and some wipeouts were had as well as some great barrels in 1ft to 2ft overhead sets.

Friday Strong winds again and so they headed out to Devil’s Island for some offshores in the mixed swell. The Island offered up some well overhead sets and very hard side shores. This was a short session as they headed to Coathangers for a look but the wind was still too strong with 30knts.

Saturday Lighter winds greeted the crew this morning and they headed to Pebbles for some really fun waves coming all the way from the outside to the inside Guillotine for some long rides. With a group of 8 surfers conditions were right to break up the crowd with some focused on the outside and some on the inside Guillotine. Solid overhead sets on the outside and head high on the Guillotine.

Sunday Calm conditions in the morning gave them a window to head to Ytops to sample a new wave for the group and they scored again with solid overhead sets with good barrels and bowling walls. The wind eventually came after a good 2 1/2hr session for a bumpy ride back to the resort.

Need to escape the hamster wheel? - Sa’Moana Resort is perfect!!

Monday 12th of July to Sunday 18th of July

Monday With the steady south swell continuing and calm winds the lads had a cruisy couple looking for some mellow surf and as they were the only surfers in house, they headed to the always playful Mal’s for some fun soft right hand walls with nice reform inside sections. Conditions were perfect with no wind and clean chest to head high. Then they headed into Kiddies Corner for some waist high waves to finish off the trip.

Tuesday A consistent south swell again and calm winds. A father and son had arrived and keen for their first surf and headed out to Pebbles to find nice overhead super clean walls connecting from outside to inside with Guillotine section, always a highlight. The All Zone option headed to Salani Right and Rustys for well overhead clean rights until the wind picked up at the last minute at Rustys.

Wednesday A bit of a bump up in size today but still a strong south swell with calm conditions so the call was to head to Wakas. On arrival at 9:30am there were a few guys out but by 10:00am everyone left and they had epic Wakas to themselves. Nice overhead barreling walls absolute glass and 2 guys out. EPIC!

Thursday The cruisy surfer couple were keen to get back to Mal’s while the father and son were on a tour to hand feed turtles. The swell had turned slight east and offered up chest to head high peaks with the fun inside reforms nice and clean conditions before a light trade had began.

Friday A new group of surfers arrived to wake up to strong trade winds so the call was Pebbles for a quick first surf with well overhead sets and hard off shore barrels with steep drops, sunny clear skies and no one else around.

Saturday Strong trades kicked in early again and the crew headed to Wakas for some fun down the line walls in side offshore conditions of head high to overhead sets. On the way the crew were greeted by the magical Samoan Spinner Dolphins who guided them into the break.

Tropical Paradise indeed!

Sunday Prevailing trade winds again for the morning and with a small south and east wind swell they headed to Outside Siumu for some playful lefts, then hit Wakas for a quickie session, until stopping at Pebbles on the way back to the resort for some small but clean fun barrels. Hints of a new swell on the way for next week!

Hi All,

This just in from Sa’Moana Resort Samoa and Yep!! You guessed it, it’s still cracking and even if they’re choosing to modest about it it still makes the local seem pretty fickle – Enjoy!

Monday 28th of June to Sunday 4th of July

Monday Pebbles was the call for our guests in the morning light with some shoulder to head high sets being groomed by the trade winds for a fun surf to start the day off. Sets were coming in to the Guillotine section and being smashed by our group of younger surfers.

Tuesday Inside Siumu and Wakas was the call today for bit of variation and relieve some pressure at Wakas as another group was surfing there upon our crews arrival. The session started at Inside Siumu with head high sets and fun racing walls then after an hour they headed back to find Wakas to ourselves producing shoulder high fun wack-able walls and barreling end section.

Wednesday The All Zones crew headed to the East Coast to find Chewy’s right well overhead but a little drifty with the current so they switched over to Coathangers and found some really fun waves with sets again well overhead and light side offshore winds. Then they hit to Wakas on the way back to the resort for a late afternoon surf with only us out surfing chest to head high really fun waves the grommies were loving it.

Thursday The entire resort accepted the invitation to have a Ultimate Sa’Moana Experience! Heading to Devil’s Island fishing, surfing, and snorkel trip with a picnic lunch on the island, a day designed for the whole family to enjoy the ocean together. The conditions were perfect with small south swell and glassy ocean. They hooked up 3 Blue Fin Trevally and 1 Bonito. Devil’s Island was chest to head high offshore while our snorkelers interacted with outer rim of the atoll cruising along the drop off and exploring the layers of coral and tropical fish. Later they called into Aganoa Black Sand Beach (Boulders) for a swim to cool off and everyone went for a snorkel and walk along this beautiful beach.

Friday An All Zones trip was called to head back to the East Coast to surf Coathangers and scored! Roping rights in offshore playful conditions surrounded by natures beauty and wonderful views. Head high offshore down the line walls with multiple turns, a unique set up in Samoa!

Saturday The Local Option took the crew to Pebbles with a mixed swell on the ocean creating multi peaks to choose from with offshore trade winds. Only 3 guests made for a mellow session to pick the right ones coming through. Chest to head high waves with bowls and a few barrels to be had.

Sunday Trade winds were blowing first thing this morning and small mixed swell so again they made the call to head to Inside Siumu to escape the wind and offer a fun option for the day. This produced chest to head high sets with a few connecting wall sections offering up turns and cutbacks along the way.
