The awesome crew from Ocean Dancer sent this through a little while ago. We like the Ocean Dancer not only because it embodies  everything you’d  imagine a luxury boat charter to the Maldives to be but it doesn’t sacrifice good ole charm and friendliness. The word luxury conjures up a slight pretense of cold, clinical fluorescence as if warmth and friendliness should be left at the doorway and servitude and detached respect should replace them. Not so on the The Ocean Dancer, no way. It’s like a warm hug their philosophy of “Come as a guest leave as a friend” rings true when on board. Guests feel like a member of the floating family, albeit a rich, opulent, tasteful  family. The price point is impressive too Luxury with warmth.

Ocean Dancer has sent through another blog. Breath training in warm turquoise water , 6-8ft world class right handers peeling of reef, luxury at the extension of a fingertip and full moon dinning whilst cruising in the tropical Maldives……. mmmmm I’m warmer already.

David Mesnard, Ocean Dancer owner, skipper, free diver extraordinaire and all round good guy has added an amazing dimension to their trips.

David Mesnard is teaching breath holding techniques to guests onboard the Ocean Dancer. The classes are proving to be very inspiring and for any surfer that has struggled with a hold down the lessons are extremely useful.

On board Ocean Dancer this week the guests experienced their first free diving course in between surf sessions. Owner David Mesnard and his wife Gaelle are now sharing their expert knowledge in free diving; teaching techniques in attitude, breathing and mind control that will help you build self confidence and mental strength in and out of the water. The session is simple, yet powerful, and anyone on board can do it and achieve immediate results. “I was always surprised at how many good surfers come on board and how little they could hold their breath underwater. So I decided to share my experience on free diving to help them feel more confident in the surf and in particular when they get held down by waves. People can triple the time spent holding their breath under water after their first session!”

Recently in Australia, David shared his passion for “free diving” as a Motivational Speaker for the Fitzpatrick Group on the Gold Coast and the Hunter Valley. Results were outstanding and

people continue to build their self confidence and mental strength for any water sport and life situations.

“This is very cool! I went from 26 seconds on my first attempt, to 1 minute and 37 seconds after one lesson. It was an unexpected highlight for my trip, and the techniques will definitely help me in big waves and other life stresses. Thanks Heaps Guys!!”

David and Gaelle, from the Ocean Dancer recently came out to Australia to say hello and let their hair down one last time before kicking off their 2011 Maldives surf season. The power couple had a shin dig with the World Surfaris crew and a few past guests. We were able to grab a few recent pics off them during their visit and since they’re about to start their first trip  on Sunday we thought we should pass on a few of them to get you amped for your trip.

                 The below has come in from Gav Clark our Ocean Dancer Surf Guide who works as a paramedic for the Billabong pro Tahiti.  After leaving the Maldives during an epic year the scene at Tahiti looks like a grim comparison.

Still it makes Teahupoo looks like fun, which is odd cause it usually looks like the open jaws of some rabid beast from the Triassic period (for me anyway).

Hi All

Thursday morning here (Friday in Aus) as the sun rises on another beautiful day in Tahiti and again the contest is on hold with another call to be made at midday. It cannot get any tighter for timing as tomorrow is the last day of the waiting period and we still have a full day to run. Whilst we are in a beautiful part of the world there are a lot of frustrated people here with the waiting. As you are all aware the whole of the first week was flat and by the end of the week island madness was setting in, you can only play so much touch footy, throw so many rocks into the ocean and try to send the local beer sales through the roof Ha Ha.

Just to make all here feel even worse, word is out that there is a big swell arriving here Monday night and it will be pumping for the whole week. As Max Smart would say ” Missed it by that much” Ahhhhhhhhhhh

Also being out of the water with my knee for that week nearly sent me crazy as all the crew here went surfing at other breaks around the island. Finally got wet this week and had a surf out front and at couple of others at some reef breaks close by. Need a boat here as the breaks are a fair way out so I was lucky to jump on a boat with a few of the Pro’s.

Monday morning finally saw the arrival of some swell and the event kicked off and we ran 12hrs straight for two days in a row. The surf was not big but was clean with some great tube riding going down. As usual with this event the locals produced plenty of upsets and quite a few of the top seeds were knocked out.

Quite a few of the heats were decided in the last minute with guys pulling out heat winning waves. Of course Kelly Slater was one of those as one of the locals had him up to last seconds of their heat (Check the Photo) and he then he pulls off a heat winner and wins by a half a point.

As we go into round four we have only 4 Aussies left. Owen Wright looking good in the top half of the draw and the other 3 (Fanning, Buchan and Melling) in the bottom half. Some awesome heats coming up there as young Adam Melling who was runner up at J Bay is taking on Slater and just could upset him and then to finish off, Mick takes on Andy Irons and my money is on Mick with the way he surfing.

Well my friends that’s it for now as it’s time for beaky, but not before trying to kill the bloody roster that has been crowing outside since 5am. Its crazy as every rosters alarm clock here is out of wack as the crow non-stop except for at bloody daybreak when they are supposed too.

A bloke would make a fortune here selling slingshots, Hey !! I just realised that I have to come back to the real world in two days and do a real job, so can you please send money so I can open up a Big Roster chain here and forget life in the fast lane.

I’ve been back in Raglan for a couple weeks, the surf and weather has been pretty good though nothing like the Maldives!! It really was a very good season – great waves, amazing weather and good times. I’m already looking forward to next year!

I’m getting lots of emails asking about the best time to visit, which is actually quite a hard question to answer as I’ve seen very good waves in every month. ! Last season July and August pumped but the crowds were pretty heavy, this season once again, these were the prime months but the crowds were incredibly light – I remember some “am I dreaming?” sessions, surfing with just the World Surfaris guests in some of the best waves I’ve ever seen! Last year September and October were epic with no one around… this year the late season was still really good with light or no wind and plenty of swell but the crowds were an issue – the last two weeks of the season were the most crowded, though a crowd in the Maldives is nothing compared to Bali or even an average day at most surfers home break! However, back to the original question of when to visit the Maldives! – I’d have to say “whenever you can” Really, you can score amazing waves at any time through the season and as I’ve discussed in a previous blogs, there’s a ‘rideable” wave pretty much everyday.

So what are you waiting for?!! I honestly feel that as a Surfer you owe it to yourself to surf the Maldives, its such a fantastic all round ocean experience. Do it!. See you next season…
