It’s been another fun week. Not big but very consistent 3-4ft. Being the school holidays the crowds have been up slightly but the waves have been relentless…. the surf eat surf eat sleep surf eat sleep etc programme continues … all the spots have had waves, we scored at Chickens – just like Macca’s was the call. Cokes with just five others was fun, only small but crystal clear perfection. Sultans – consistent as ever…just the ultimate fun park with more than enough waves for everyone. Out the front Lohi’s has been perfect – JT’s best ever! The wind has been shifting from light cross to offshore throughout the sessions so there’s been moments of absolute perfection.
It’s been great having repeat guests here for such a fun week of waves. Nicko, looking fitter than ever, frothing more than ever, running around like an amped grom, surfing 3 times a day and on the spot for at least one good wave in every set “Baldy Lopez” on his Merrick single fin…and yes Nicky did get it on film!
JT and Matt, first in the water for the early, then first on the boat at 9:15. Matt blowing up, his surfing so precise now , JT getting younger as the grom pack start to push it – great vibe on the boat and in the waves. JT couldn’t have invited a nicer group. I really hope they all come back sometime.
Great to see Ace and Micko, here for a couple weeks getting surf fit pre Mentawai’s – life’s good eh Ace! (Hope you score Rifles) Kate, Ash and Virgy timed it perfectly being here with these guys – the “gentlemen of surfing” who I’ve never heard call anyone off a wave only onto waves….inspirational…good onya and thanks.
I had the chance to ride a ‘Bing” 6′9 single fin on a couple fun days at Sultans…loved it a really classic shape…great for smoothing it all out…thanks Matt C…. Hope you’re enjoying it “Slim Shady”!!
A few comments on past blogs! - apparently I should stress quite how much you can surf here! I thought I had, but guys are telling me that “they had no idea they were going to get so many waves” and that it gets really really good! Yes, as good as Indo!!! so OK, ..there it is!.
Also to advise guests to bring some low denomination US$ for tips. I always say tipping is a personal issue, but if someones lingering after carrying your boards to your room when you arrive, it’s handy to have some small notes in your wallet, rather than trying to change a 50 at midnight. Also guests often ask me about tipping their waiter or room attendant or the boat crew , again it’s up to you, but a small tip at the end of your stay, perhaps 5 or 10US$ per person is greatly appreciated.
Well, it’s small and windy today but no one seems too bothered! Apparently its Beers and beach volley ball at the Beach Bar at 4PM…gotta run!
See you soon,
Rich
