To put it simply , the surf of the last week has been amazing !

The last swell and 2 extra pulses all rolled in to the island chain bigger than expected, lighting up most breaks. clean conditions with little to no wind actually made the selection of which break to surf very difficult on some days as they were all going off.

The only 2 guests in the resort at the moment have had the cream to choose from and we have been surfing overhead surf for over a week with most days offering tubes and some offering nothing but tubes.

the ocean seems to be settling a bit now, a welcomed sight so we can all rest the acheing muscles and be ready for the next pulse due before the weekend.w

Slight swell increase from yesterday produced the odd head high set during the late morning session. The clean long lefts were easy pickings for us today as we shared  sessions with our charter boat Nomad and for the first time in a few weeks finally some beautiful blue sky. The  tide change did wonders during the afternoon session and although small, it was perfect and consistent.

All eyes looking forward to a fresh swell predicted for late friday and saturday predominently from the south west hopefully giving the West Oz lads a send off to remember. w

Huey certainly delivered the goods this weekend,  well over 6ft with the swell kicking twice in three days as predicted.

As usual with a swell of this size and quality , anticipation was high to say the least with plenty of big calls being thrown around regarding its potential. One thing is sure, some epic sessions went down in the area. Jono our skipper on the NOMAD being the standout at our home break on Saturday and a memorable first day for RLZ guests as they stepped straight off the plane and straight into the fire on Sunday, some receiving the cuts and others taking the glory (see below a slabby one that went through to the keeper on Sunday afternoon).

The great thing about this recent swell was the variety. Something for all from tubes to big rippable walls, enough to keep any surfer happy as the ’stoke’ levels went through the roof.

Photographer Simon ‘Swilly’ Williams is staying here with us again this week and we will be sure to post a selection of his shots over the coming few days.  w

RLZ plays host to some of Australia’s best competing junior surfers this week. The crew is here as a part of a special father/son trip led by the the biggest grommet of them all, WAYNE DEAN. The thrill of seeing a trip such as this come off is amazing with everybody sharing a special bond.

The waves have been pretty good also, these super groms have been destroying every piece of ocean that moves, the standard is set very high for the future!

A slower day on the swell forecasts expected tomorrow before a clean west swell starts to roll in on Thurs, so check back for the shots as photographer SIMON ‘Swilly’ WILLIAMS will certainly not miss any of the action.  w

There hasn’t been alot to report over the last few days, waist high runners being the norm.

Today the drought has well and truely broken with some beautiful 6ft tubes on offer before dark, the swell building all afternoon, grommets and fathers alike welcoming the favourable change in swell pattern and it appears there is plenty to look forward to over the coming week. 3 large swell pulses in 6 days.

A super early start tomorrow so we can take advantage of the a still rising swell, clean glassy conditions and incoming tide. The shots below are a taste of todays perfection at a favourite right hand reef breek. w

Still some fun to be had on the back of this dying swell, we surfed long chest high lefts for over 4 hrs this morning before the tide sucked the guts right out of it.  The late afternoon session was spent experimenting with surf flash photography to the back drop of a beautiful equatorial sunset (check back tomorrow for the results).  Here is the current ASP world number 5 Adriano De Souza boosting on his backhand in the clean morning session.

A new south swell is expected to start relieving the tired old one tomorrow. Wave height and power should continue to rise well into Thursday. w

Dismal conditions have kind of ruined the small south swell that we expected today, some fun clean waves were on offer but it was definitely a bit of a let down.  The wind blew and the slop grew! Our favoured spot for these conditions protected from the damaged sea delivered the goods but we were hoping for some of the magic Indo quality we are so accustomedto at RLZ. Stuey still managed a single 6 hr session.

Here is a shot of Marco and Fred hard at work behinds the lense and a piece of there handywork after dark with the flash.  James setting up a sweet last wave on the SUP!  w

The back end of the last swell had enough tale today to produce overhead rides well into the early evening.  A very stormy morning broke before lunch into a beautiful day.

The tide and wind cleaned the line up not long after arriving and long overhead lefts were served up for first surf, after lunch around the pool some peaky rights at one of the islands most beautiful surfing sites.

Looking forward, we have some more swell set to bombard us from the south in the next day or two and as we shift away from the spring tides its going to open up plenty of oppotunities around the chain.

Here is Al, Johno and James having alot of fun on the afternoon right.

30.7.09

finally some lefts!
4 days of surfing clean 4 foot right handers has been great but yesterday was one for the goofy footers .
a stormy sloppy morning gave way to some pretty nice conditions by mid day and some clean grean sumatran walls were the prize for patience.much the same is expected today with similar swell and unsettled winds and looking ahead a good run of sw swell and more stable light and variable winds. w
