Kandui Surf Report (25)

Hi All,

Last week a massive blob of swell was unfolding throughout the Indian Ocean, sling shoting of the coast of Madagascar building speed and intensity like a run away hoon. WA lit up but the real winner was of course  Indo from East to Northwest the surf infested Archipelago lived its reputation. Serving delicious wave morsel afer delicious wave morsel leaving the most fussiest of connoisseur feeling like a glutton. The swell continuing its march north is lighting up the Maldives and there’s wave glory aplenty. Reports are coming in we’ve posted a couple and Kandui has just sent through theirs….. If your on the East coast of Aus and the south swells are frustratingly walking right past you may want to sit this one out or grab a box of tissues (for crying)

Enjoy WS :)

Fresh From the Kandui press……
June 21st Surf Report
We’ve been looking at “the blob” coming at us for some time now.  It looked like it was going to be big.  Really big!  We were at Kandui’s just as it was light enough to surf.  Sets were rolling in.  It was indeed pretty big and still a little raw and unruly looking, but our crew were on it like white on rice!  They were throwing themselves into any bomb that came their way.  There were spectacular barrels and spectacular wipeouts!   I think their were 5 boards broken in the matter of a half hour!  It cleaned up as the day went on and the waves just kept getting better.  The winds finally got funky around midday and the tide got low, but the guys had already had their fill.  It was the day of the year so far at Kandui.  We are hoping for more tomorrow!
The forecasts were calling for southeast winds and we all went to bed dreaming of perfect Kandui’s for the morning.  But there might be only one wave more fickle than Rifles, and that is Kandui’s!   It wouldn’t cooperate for us two days in a row.  The winds in the morning were west and Kandui’s was looking like it was hungover from all the good times yesterday.  But, no worries, Rifles takes a west wind and we were on it at first light.  The swell wasn’t getting in there full blast with all the west in it, but it was plenty fun with waves going a few feet overhead on the sets.  We got the best of it before the boats started rolling in.  The wind was blowing everything out except our area and there was a local contest on Sipora, so that was funneling every boat within 50 miles right into our zone!  As it turned out, the winds clocked around and started messing up waves here as well!  With eight boats in front of the resort and funky winds, what to do?

With 8 charter boats and other resort boats surfing the waves in our zone, in funky conditions even, we were on the fence.  Start drinking heavily or take a boat ride and see if the wind had clocked around enough to clean up Bankvaults.  Luckily, we choose the later.  The waves were not as big as we expected at Bankvaults and it was inconsistent, but it beat the hell out of what the herd was surfing!  Two other guys eventually paddled out to join us, but other than that we had the place to ourselves.  Hopefully, we can pull a rabbit out of our hat tomorrow and avoid the boats again.
