The following is a copy of an e-mail sent from Michael Hill of our Bali World Surfaris office to our very own Shaun Levings- propietor, owner, classy bloke and all round good guy. The e-mail just goes to show that experience and local knowledge make all the difference-it’s become a point we pride oursleves on and perhaps the biggest factor in differentiating us from our competitors.
Dear Shaun,
Went on surfari with of Alindas groups… this place is remotely located on the East Coast …still pretty quiet..the photos don’t really tell you the story…
Only one road into a huge coconut plantation in which weeves through these huge coconut trees… and then ends up on a grassy block of land looking out to the ocean… I had never surfed there before let alone been there before… but these guys were keen for a bit of adventure (hit and miss if need be)
Out of the 6 guys (from evans head) only 1 had been to bali before… Mitchell campbel
We got there and there was a 1 foot wave lapping over the river stones… then one of the crew wanted to get some fresh coconuts so he paid one of the local men to climb up the tree to cut some down… while the man was climbing up the tree… some of us noticed a couple of 2 footers coming through… within 5 minutes there was 4 of us already paddling out… 3 footers and the occasional 4 footer came through then wind turned on shore… but we had it for about 1.5hours… it was pretty funny as we had surfed earlier just north of sanur..and it was pretty small and I told the guests that I saw there was a bit of a pulse supposed to happen around 12noon in a quiet unconfident way…..and when we turned up I felt pretty embarrassed (nothing)….. well… as soon as the clock rang 12..the waves started to come in… as soon as we got out there… I was yelling YEP AROUND 12 NOON THERE WILL BE WAVES MY FRIEND!!!!!! …. a couple of locals joined us out there and said there had been no waves for 5 days… so we were bloody lucky… (these were the guys that merpati cancelled there flight to lakeys on.).. they were so stoked even one of them said geez we were lucky the flight was cancelled as I wouldn’t have missed this day for the world… Mick you guys really live up to the World Surfaris part of the deal today we scored it was a real Surfari alright…….
It wasn’t epic but seeing we and only 3 other locals were out there with this magnificent back drop and from nothing to 4 foot sets… it was a free for all..
(I was worried the guests wanted to cancel the lakey peak trip and stay in Bali and surf with us hahahhaha)
Really really great bunch of guys, I had an absolute ball…..
(one of those days you never forget)
Although feeling bloody sunburnt today…hahahha
Have a great weekend..
Michael Hill
