June 20th surf report

Happy International Surf Day!  Although the first half of the day didn’t pan out great for us, the second half by far made up for it!  We started out the day going to Bankvaults.  There was no lack of swell over there and it looked good, but once we were in the water we found out how lumpy it was.  And the nice current running up the reef made it really hard to catch the bombs that were going through.  We ended up getting frustrated and pulled the anchor and went to Hideaways.  The wind was  cross shore there, but we made the best of it before heading back to the resort.  Most of us were feeling pretty defeated.  The guys who did the best were probably the ones that stuck by the resort and surfed empty Aframes!  I’ll attach one picture from that session.  After eating a nice lunch and regrouping a bit, we were back on the hunt for waves, trying to make up for our morning dissatisfaction.  We would be successful!  Most the guys went to Beng Beng where conditions were great and the waves were overhead.  They surfed until their arms gave out!  Pictures attached.  Our other boat went to Bankvaults.  We could only get a couple of the guests to join Aaron and myself.  On the way, we were talking about how we always seem to score at Bankvaults when we can only talk a few guests into going with us.  This would be no exception!  We pulled up, the waves were firing, conditions were perfect, and there were only 2 guys in the water to start with and only a few more to follow.  That’s how we like it!  Young Roger, our guest who was the only one to have a decent session in the morning, got some good waves and Aaron got a bomb!  I managed to get a couple of waves myself.  Pictures attached.  We surfed until the sun went down.  It was all smiles on the boat as we cracked some Bintangs and gloated about our good fortune.  Looking at smaller surf tomorrow.

June 17th surf report

A new swell filled in overnight and waves were bigger this morning.  Rifles had some big ones rolling through, but it was our guests first day and they gave it a pass so we don’t have any pictures of that session.  All that traveling and a wicked current running up the reef at Rifles was too much to overcome on the first day.  But they still did well going to another spot (ruff, ruff!) and the some of the other guys did quite well just sticking it out here and surfing 4 Bobs, A Frames, and Karambat left.  Around midday the conditions got really glassy and Rifles started to fire when the tide turned around, and there were only a handful of guys out.  It was too good to be true, and that’s the way it turned out as a storm formed to the east and blew onshore winds at Rifles the rest of the afternoon.  A couple of us bobbed around in the chop, praying for a wind switch, but the surf gods would have nothing to do with it.  We got a couple of pictures though, and I will post those and a couple more of 4 Bobs and that other place.  Looking at smaller swell for the upcoming days, but still plenty of size for some fun.
