So is 2012 your year? The silly season zipped by at break neck speed and its almost impossible to not feel just a little bit cheated by it all.  Holidays are that glorious light at the end of the tunnel. Without that pin prick of light approaching in the distance it all becomes that little bit harder. We need a holiday to look forward too the more promising that holiday the bigger and brighter that light the more bearable the mundane. With Me? Good

Bearing that in mind – A small part of my day is given to looking at our website (obviously) looking over the site its hard not tick off destinations and create a bucket list. Up the top on anyone’s list I think would be the Maldives. After all its the Maldives, we’ve all seen the pics we’ve all said ‘One day’.

I heard a surfer call it the Smalldives, which suits me fine.  If its triple over head and late take offs into screaming pits you’ll find me under the covers or faking a headache/sore ankle/ brucellosis (which only affects gestating sheep).

Maldives with its clear waters, fun wakable waves and friendly locals suits me fine… It’d have to be a boat of course I’m going with my mates, sorry honey you’re no that keen of a surfer, we live in Australia so there’s plenty of opportunities to get a tan at home. I’d I want to see a lot of it. So the Male atolls, despite several world renown breaks and numerous options and a very tempting Ocean Divine, this small slice of paradise just isn’t going to cut it. It’s my dream trip so I want to see a lot of the Maldives let’s go Central and Male Atolls, that just leaves the Handhu. Yes, that’ll do nicely 12nights of surfing in paradise with my mates and great swell. Food and transfers all that Jazz taken care off. That would be a great light at the end of the tunnel.

Obviously all this rambling has a point… This trip is going at a steal. Yes its the sales pitch but its a bloody good one and its cheap like the budgie…

Hi All,

So reports are still coming in from the Indian Ocean and it looks good – Damn Good! The whole 2011 season has been a corker as far as consistency and size has been concerned.  2012 is looking like another La-Nina year  (at least that’s what the Weather Bureau is saying). A lot of people have chalked up the surf and consistency throughout both Pacific and Indian Ocean to this atmospheric phenomenon so by all accounts its looking like 2012 is going to be another cracker.

But lets just get one thing down and clear! It’s the Indian Ocean, there is going to be surf no matter what, that massive wet gap between Australia and Africa tends produce swell regardless even on its worst day its still better than a good day at the local (definitely our local ).

Handhu’s surf guide the very awesome ‘Yursee’ has sent through the latest surf report from the September Maldives Male and central Atolls trip. Full report as below and pics included

Day 1

Plan: Went to ying yang first, then went to check a reef on the west coast.

Conditions:Ying Yang was bad, but the left was very clean and nice 3-4 ft. We had SE winds

Guests: At first very unhappy but so stoked to see the left working

Day 2

Plan: Stayed at the left again

Conditions: Was another great day. But was a bit smaller

Guests:  Stoked!!

Day 3

Plan: Stayed at the left first and then went to ying yang and went fishing on the way. Later surf Ying Yangs

Conditions: Fishing was great, caught an 11ft Merlin and a sail fish. The left was small but great.

Guests: The best thing was the fish. Everyone was so happy and amazed

Day 4

Plan: Surfed the small left near Ying Yang then left to Mikados at noon Mikado’s

Conditions: The Left was smaller and windblown. But mikado was great at 5 ft but had company

Guests: We had a boat called blue shark turn up at the break. 10 guests with longboard Aussies wasn’t too bad we had plenty of waves

Day 5

Plan: Mikado’s

Conditions: Great surf again. But got stormy afternoon the other boat had left.

Guests: They were very happy till the storm but weren’t too bummed since they had so many good waves.

Day 6

Plan: Good surf again in Mikado.

Conditions: It was great surf but a bit smaller. We had company again.

Guests: Waves were small so had a hard time with so many people. But still there was waves guests were  happy

Day 7

Plan: Early morning Mikados then left to Mauroofs point in Dhaalu.

Conditions: Still good at Mikado but too crowded so we left. Mauroofs was ok till about 4pm then a storm came along

Guests: Very happy to surf Mauroofs even though wasn’t very good conditions hoping for cleaner waves.

Day 8

Plan: Surfed at Mauroofs and left to North Male

Conditions: Mauroofs got worse and was a very rough trip to male atoll. 13 hrs but worth it

Guests: Rough channel crossing maybe a bad idea rough seas

Day 9

Plan: Surfed at sultans. Went to Pasta’s for a drink.

Conditions: Was 3-4 ft. Not very clean

Guests: Surf was a bit disappointing but enjoyed the day!

Day 10

Plan: Again at sultans. But we went to Cokes just to visit the island

Conditions: Was a bit windy at sultans

Guests: Was very happy to go on the island.

Day 11

Plan: Came back to Sultans

Conditions: Was very clean best day at Sultans. There was a goup of pros so hard to catch many waves

Guests: Were very happy with the conditions

Handhu Latest Surf Report Aug 2011

Day 1: went to riptides.

Conditions: no one there. Good 3-4 ft swell. Clean winds

Comments: stoked!

Day 2: rip tides. Then left to skankys( ‘mauroof point’ )

Conditions: a bit smaller and wind effected. Then sunset queen came with about 14 guests

Comments: found sunset queen’s arrival a bit annoying

Day 3: Arrived at skankys at morning.

Conditions: Wast very good at first but was better than it seemed with some currents later.

Comments: They were very happy since it was a fun session with very looong rides.

Day 4: skankys. I heard Sunset Queen was staying at Jinnis. So we decided to stay at skankys till they leave

Conditions: Wasn’t as good and got a bit windy but was still worth surfing. Unfortunately Nautilus turned up.

Comments: A bit disappointed with Nautilus but decided it was better than Jinnies with 14 more surfers in the water.

Day 5: Skankys again

Conditions: Was the same conditions. Wasn’t bad but the currents were unpredictable and a little strong at times.

Contents: The other guests on Nautilus weren’t too bad and our guests were fine and happy to share waves.

Day 6: Skankys . Nautilus left so we had it for ourself again.

Conditions: Wind was getting strong would have been better at Mikado guests decided to  stay here because Sunset Queen was still in Jinnis. Our guest seemed happier to dodge he crowd.

Comments: Wasn’t excellent conditions but it was suppose to getting better on the following day.

Day 7: Skankys

Conditions: Conditions improved a lot was scored crystal clean conditions with3 ft swell. All to us only bad side was some currents.

Comments: Guests were stoked and they surfed all day! Were very happy.

Day 8: Skankys

Conditions: Even better. With bigger sets Up to 5ft with glassy conditions

Comments: Everyone surfed out and very happy

Day 9: Cruised to Jinnis. Made sure that the Sunset Queen had left

Conditions: Wasn’t perfect offshore but it was better than what it was in Skankys. The wind was S and sometimes S/E so Jinnis was the best option. Side winds but 3 ft swell

Comments: Compared to what he at  skankys  guests weren’t as happy but still surfed or recovered from the last two days of awesome surf. It was a good session.

Day 10: Went to check Maliks left (hirirlandhoo) and came back to Jinnis

Conditions: Unfortunately the swell dropped and wind was SE so we checked Maliks left which would have been off shore unfortunately it wast breaking properly as the swell wasn’t big enough coupled with storing winds made it unsurfable

Day 11: Started motoring early to the airpot (Laamu)

Conditions: No surfing as some guests had an earlier flight

Comments: Some clients were very unhappy that they had an earlier flight but everyone left super stoked and very surfed out.

Handhu recently helped one of our clients bring in their 50th birthday during a recent trip. Yursee, Handhu’s sterling surf guide, caught all the action and sent it through. Apart from having a 50th that no-one is like to forget the fellas also scored some great surf, the 2011 season is proving to be exceptional.

Handhu -Male & Central atolls May 3 – 13

Day 1 we surfed at furana(full moon resort/n male) first. We had s/w winds which made it pretty good. and then decided to go to jails. It was pretty strong sw winds which made jails the best option. shoulder height in furana but about a foot over head in jails.

Day 2 surfed again at jails. Condition were great with a bit of crowd . The guests were happy staying in north male for sometime. They really enjoyed jails.  day 3 another day at jails. We had the option of going to muli with similar swell but would not have been as glassy with sw winds.  A guest got injured! (he had a deep cut from the board fin which  needed stitches. We took him to hmmafushi/jails  immediately). he had to stay away from surf for

Day3 SE swell was dropping and SW getting stronger.

Day4 Last day at jails. Though winds were strong , it was shifting a bit north sometimes so we decided to move to Muli in the morning. For the night, we came to Hulhu male.

Day 5 Left early around 3 in the morning. We were in Muli for a surf before lunch. Was very clean and around waist to shoulder height. They were a bit spoilt from the quality from jails but had some fun.

Day 6 After a morning cruise, we came to dhaalu at 11 am. Hadigilla wasn’t very good but surfable. Was sectioney. Didn’t join so wasn’t very good. Everyone was surfed out anyways so we went to an   island nearby to just relax, have some fun, snorkelling…   .Everyone was surfed out anyways, so we went to an island nearby to just relax, have some fun, snorkelling…

Day 7 Swell picked up as predicted from the forecast. And got pretty good. But the sw west wind made it a bit choppy. Later in the evening it became vey good. The sections joined an worked well with  the reforming inside section giving some powerful barrels. everyone n the water caught some barrels. I hit the reef pretty bad leaving my knees ankle and shins pretty swollen.  was frustrating  knowing that the swell picks up the most the following day

Day 8 Found out in the morning that the wind was south. So we left to kanimeedhoo. (jinni). it was good size. But even for this spot the wind was a bit too south. Was a bit choppy with super fun walls.  I got some good video footage.

Day 9 We stayed in kanimeedhoo again. The swell dropped a bit but the winds were sw which made it glassy.the guests were very happy surfing here.

Day 10 Surfed kanimeedhoo. But today was a bit too small and waves weren’t very frequent. But still had fun. The guys did some fishing and snorkelling too. We even had some locals coming from a nearby island.  nearby island.

Day 11 We surfed at kanimeedhu and left to the airport around noon. Still there were some nice waves coming to kanimeedhu. We had some n in the winds which made it a bit choppy later. We left to (No Suggestions) at noon.

2011 has kicked off, already reports from the outer atoll trips onboard the Handhu and Handhu Fahli have come in, and they are glowing reports. We are predicting that the 2011 season will be another cracker.

All the pics below are from the Maldives and were taken last year. We’ll be blogging about the Indian Ocean products in upcoming entries with a bit of an in depth look at each one, the breaks you can expect to surf and other tid bits of info to either get you excited for your trip or excited to book your trip.      Just recieved an e-mail from our friends in the Maldives and owners of the Handhu and Handhu-Fahli  Sobah and Fazeen. They’ve spent the off season rennovating the Handhu Fahli getting it ready for the 2011 season. The ever popular Outer Atoll trips start in Feburary and the first group onboard will be enjoying all the upgrades.

• Fully rennovated Kitchen with all new fixtures
• New Board racks
• Extra head space on the stair well (Justin, one of the consulatnts, keeps letting everyone in the office know how important this is as he’ll no longer bump his head).
• More space in the main cabin with extra dinning facilities
• Slide doors on teh deck instead of swing doors
• New toilet and shower fixtures
• More seating spaces on the afts
• Sundeck beds for chilling between breaks
• A new schmick paint job.

2011 spaces are rare and filling fast the new look boat is going quick so make sure you get onboard for 2011. Get In Early specials availabe until 31st Janurary so make the most of it and enquire today.

Hi Guys,

 Please see the images to see the major repairs which we have done on Handhu Fahli . Hope the pictures would be helpful in posting it on web to show the changes we have made on Handhu Fahli.

According to Shaheen we will still be doing some repairing on the floor before we start the surf season. Handhu ( the big brother of Handhu Fahli) will be on dock this week or early next week and we will send you a detail report on the things which we have done on Handhu.

Looking forward to a successful season 2011.
