More InfoKey Features
Consistent surf
Vanimo is highly regarded as PNG's most consistent surf region and is very open to the north swells that occur from October to April. Lido peninsula has a nice right on one side and a left on the other that work in differing wind condtions resulting in one of the breaks usually being offshore!
Friendly locals
The founder of Vanimo's surf community is Surfing Association of PNG president Andrew Abel. Andrew introduced the locals to surfing in the 80s and some are now surfing for the PNG national team. They are very proud of their surf and love to share it with intrepid travellers.
Few tourists
Due to Vanimo's remoteness, surfers make up the majority of very the small number of tourists visiting the region. The basic infrastructure of Vanimo makes it an experience to remember. Lido Village is the place to stay due to its close proximity to the best surf breaks.
