Boats
Supervised by Marine Operations Manager Dave Simons and crewed by our Marine Operations Staff, Agus and Andy, our main transfer boat, 80 Down, is a 7.3M centre-console, targa top, computer-designed plate alloy Kahjaya vessel built new in Jarkata in 2008.
80 Down features full navigation systems and onboard electronics that put many large yachts to shame and keep us in communication with the resort at all times. It also features onboard music systems that play everything from CD’s to MP3/I-pods. 80 Down is powered by eco-friendly state of the art twin 150 HP 4-stroke outboards, carries 600 liters of fuel and has a top speed of 40 knots. All guest seating is on padded chairs and undercover and we carry a full stock of ice-cold beer, water and soft drinks. 80 Down can get up to 12 people and their surfing equipment to most breaks in our region in total comfort and a matter of minutes.
The boat was refurbished in 2007 and is capable of 26 knots cruise, 33 knots top speed, getting you to most breaks in total comfort and a matter of minutes.
Our back-up boat, Zero Down, is a 26-foot centre-console, computer-designed-7mm plate alloy, Phil Curren model designed and cut in Australia. ZD is powered by a 200 hp Yamaha two-stroke outboard purchased new in 2008. She carries 200 liters of fuel, giving a full-speed run time of four hours. The boat is fitted with two-way communications, GPS.
Lagoon/Service Tenders. In addition to our main surf transfer boats we also have an array of smaller boats that are used for everything from supply transfer to lagoon cruising. The smallest of these is "Bombay Sapphire" a 5-meter flat bottom wood boat and the largest of these is "Marlin 2" a 7-meter cargo boat. These boats are handmade by the local community using local hardwood.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a visa for Indonesia?
As of March 2004, nationals of United States, Australia, South Africa, Argentina, Brazil, Denmark, United Arab Emirates, Finland, Hungary, United Kingdom, Italy, Japan, Germany, Canada, South Korea, Norway, France, Poland, Switzerland, New Zealand and Taiwan must pay $US25 for on entry visa on arrival in Indonesia.
How do I get to Padang or Medan?
Depending on where you’re coming from, there are several different options you can use to get to Padang or Medan (for example you can fly to Padang via Singapore, via Kuala Lumpur, via Jakarta etc). For more details please contact us to work out what suits you best....
What about travel insurance?
ALL guests must have full comprehensive travel and medical insurance and should include at least a MedEvac option and compensation for lost charter days due to unforeseen circumstances or emergencies.
How many boards should I bring?
This is entirely up to how much excess baggage you are willing to pay for! Most people bring two to four boards. The normal board you ride at home is fine and perhaps a slightly larger semi-gun. If you are going to bring an extra board we would suggest a replacement for the board you will use the most as it is not uncommon to break boards. Remember to bring extra leg ropes and tropical surf wax.
What do you suggest I pack?
Besides yourself and your surfboards, we recommend that you at least try to bring the following items:
2 or 3 pairs of board shorts
Some T-shirts
Booties
Solarez - the type with rovings in it
Spare leg ropes
Rash vests
Tropical surf wax
Spare fins and keys, spare plugs and screws if you have FCS system
Sunscreen
Sunglasses
Mosquito repellent
Can I recharge my video camera etc?
Yes! No problems.
Can I be contacted while I am staying at Telo Island Lodge?
Yes, you can be contacted on your mobile phone as long as you have global roaming activated. You can also be contacted on the lodge manager’s phone.
Due to medical or personal reasons I follow a special diet. Can you accommodate this?
Yes, with prior notification we can accommodate most dietary requests.
Can you give me an idea of how many other people I'll be surfing with?
Our aim is to spend the majority of our trips surfing with just the people staying at the lodge (maximum eight). This is not always possible, but there are plenty of waves in this area and due to our extensive experience we know how to be in the right place at the right time while still avoiding major crowds. Whilst it is inevitable that we will come across other surfers from time to time you can rest assured you will get plenty of waves.
