North Sumatra

World Surfaris has a small select range of surfing holidays in the North Sumatra region. We classify North Sumatra as the region to the North of the Telo Islands including Nias, The Hinakos, The Banyaks and Simeulue.

The region hosts some incredible waves with many only accessible by boat. Our North Sumatra boats work out of Sibolga and on a typical 11 day trip, you will surf the incredible Banyak Islands with Treasure Island rights, Bay of Plenty lefts and several others. Your trip may also include surfing Nias and the Hinako Islands. The surf guides on the boats we represent in this region have superior expertise and are usually able to find uncrowded waves for just you and your mates.

Aura Surf Resort on Simeulue Island is a tricky place to get to and near impossible to arrange without a travel agent handling the domestic Indo flights. The remoteness and the transport issues are the core reasons that Simeulue will never get crowded. Aura is perfectly located overlooking The Peak, which is A-Frame heaven. The Aura crew will show you a good time and an Indo adventure that will have you feeling like a surf pioneer.

The latest addition to our unique and hand-picked World Surfaris range is the new KabuNohi Sorake Resort located in Lagundri Bay on the island of Nias (off the West Coast Province of North Sumatra).  The geographical position of the SSW facing Lagundri Bay means it picks up all ocean swells.  It is also a safe, all weather anchorage for vessels large and small.  It is fair to say that the Sorake Surf Point is the safest, readily assessable and most consistent high quality surf break along this Sumatran coastline.
