All day affair

Written by David Scard

Like anywhere when its on its on!! P-Pass is special in many ways, but the last trip I did to Pohnpei in February cemented why this wave is a cut above the rest, and that is it Breaks All Day! Low Tide, High Tide and Mid Tide.

We arrived right into the first of 3 swells in 6 days. I was traveling with Wade Goodall and Matt Wilkinson and they were part of a super junior Group to do a photo shoot for Transworld Surf Magazine.

Right off the plane and into super-fun 4-6ft P-Pass, these young guys knew they were in for the trip off their life (the next 5 days were 6-8ft). We surfed until dusk as all the other surfed out PSC guests sat in the comfort of the boats and watched the late afternoon show while having a few cold ones.

When you consider the number of surfers vs waves that roll down the reef in one day, there is more than enough for any wave pig. Fact is the reef is surf-able from 6 am to 6 pm, that makes for 12 hrs of surf time, even Laird Hamilton couldn’t do more than 6 hrs a day surfing in the equatorial sun.

Having just spent the season in Indonesia and seeing the crowds battle the small windows of tide that make for the best part of the day, I for one cant wait to get back to Pohnpei for some more all day affairs!!
